MALACCA: A state DAP committee member as well as a businessman were today remanded for three days over a cheating case involving a Kelantan land deal five years ago.

The duo, aged 29 and 54, were produced in court at 8.30am. The remand order was issued by magistrate Analia Kamaruddin.

Ex-Malacca DAP chairman Goh Leong San, in the state assembly sitting earlier this month, caused a stir when he revealed that two DAP members had been involved in what he described as ‘corruption and intimidation.’

Three Malacca smallholders allegedly lost almost RM1 million to the DAP man as well as another Opposition member in the 2012 land deal.

Left – Suspects being taken away by police after been remanded at Ayer Keroh Magistrate’s Court while DAP Ayer Keroh assemblyman Khoo Poay Tiong (right) denies the land deal involved corruption.

Last week, Malacca Chief Minister Idris Haron briefed the assembly on a police report over a dubious land deal.

Idris said that the report was lodged by a 50-year-old farmer in Tanjung Minyak on December 14, 2016.

In the police report, two people, Wong Chi Sing and Chua Soon Teck, had offered to help the complainant to obtain approval to lease a 500-acre plot of land in Kuala Krai, Kelantan, on condition that the complainant offered a political donation to PAS.

Idris told the House that Wong and Chua then took the complainant to meet Ayer Keroh assemblyman Khoo Poay Tiong to confirm what they said.

After being convinced by Khoo, said Idris the complainant made several transactions to Wong’s bank account (RM528,000) and to Mohd Haffiz Mohd Rasdir, via a bank account (RM448,300), between 2012 and January 2014.

Idris said that the complainant, after seeing no progress in the land application and discovering that the suspects were unable to produce any documentation related to the leasing of the land, lodged a police report, as he felt that he had been cheated.

When met by pressmen later, DAP’s assemblyman Khoo denied that he was involved in the case, adding that the Kelantan land deal was “genuine and had nothing to do with corruption.”
