Kit Siang draws on history of PMs, while picking next one

PETALING JAYA: DAP’s Lim Kit Siang today praised the first four prime ministers of Malaysia, including Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the man who once had him locked up — just a day after he had proposed Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the next PM.

It was reported that Lim proposed that PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail be made interim prime minister should the opposition capture Putrajaya in the next general election (GE14). The Malay Mail Online reported that he said this at an event in Penang last night.

Today, Lim followed up with a statement, saying it was a shame that Parliament and the Umno general assembly took part in the “grand deception and charade”, in reference to the 1MDB issue.

“This would not have happened under the first four prime ministers — Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tun Abdul Razak, Tun Hussein Onn and Mahathir, who led the Federal Government in the first 46 years of the nation’s history.”

He said Tunku had actually worked with DAP for a more democratic, clean and responsible government, while Razak’s frugality and integrity was well known to all, as was Hussein’s commitment to fighting corruption.

“Mahathir’s opposition to the 1MDB scandal needs no introduction,” he said in a statement.

Malay Mail Online reported that Lim, who is Gelang Patah MP also proposed last night that PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin be made interim deputy prime minister.
