SJKC Pai Chee, Mersing: Malay teacher claims assault by parent. Police say it is not a racial issue.

From SJKC Pai Chee to all SJKC’s: UMNO Youth demands ‘racial discrimination’ study…

Mersing district police chief M Kumar told Malaysiakini that this incident should not be made into a racial issue. It just so happened that the teacher is a Malay and the student’s father is a Chinese.

GURU BESAR SJKC PAI CHEE MINAT DAP ?

GURU BESAR SJKC PAI CHEE MINAT DAP ?

Speedy transfer of Mersing HM suggests double standards

YOURSAY | ‘It’s sad to note the selective action taken by the education minister.’

Chinese school head transferred after alleged racial incident’

Saya Pun Nak Cari Makan: The authorities must be congratulated for its quick action in punishing the headmistress (HM) of a Chinese primary school in Mersing by transferring her elsewhere.

And it is indeed an action in the right direction if the HM is racist. But, at the same time, the authority must not regard the three teachers in question as angels.

Quite often, these teachers have political connections which offer them ‘protection’ from any action against them.

Jbsuara: This is an obvious double standard – no action is taken against the racist Malay headmistress who utter derogatory remarks against non-Malay students.

Yet in this case, even an independent investigation is yet to be carried out and actions have already been taken.

ConstitutionIsSupreme: It’s sad to note the selective action taken by the education minister.

I must say this is not a racial issue but I just can’t help but feel strongly if the teacher was an Indian and the headmistress was a Malay, will the education minister or ministry act promptly as in this case?

The fact is we don’t see this swift action in past cases such as the one involving students eating in the toilets. The headmaster even made public statements justifying his decision.

The education minister/ministry needs to consistently practise professionalism in all their decisions if they wish to deny there is no double standard.

Thinkingmachine: There always seems to be friction among the races in Malaysia. Racism keeps rearing its ugly head from time to time, whether the culprit is a Malay, Chinese or Indian.

We are constantly faced with the challenge of preserving our national unity. Incidences of this nature are good for the politicians who would prefer to divide and rule.

We have to guard ourselves from the many communal issues and coming back to headmistress, she must be dealt with properly.

Ministers: Don’t view school incident as a racial issue

KUALA LUMPUR: The public must not view issues behind racial lenses in the light of an alleged attack on a teacher in Mersing, Johor.

Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid had posted on Facebook calling all parties to be calm.

“I hope all parties do not treat this as a racial issue. Such cases do not happen often,” he had said.

Mahdzir said the headmaster of the school had been placed at the district education office until investigations were completed.

He added a special team had been formed and a report on the incident was expected to be ready soon.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said the teacher had made a police report.

Dr Wee said just because it happened in a Chinese vernacular school did not mean it was a racial issue.

“Even though it is a SJK(C), we want to protect all teachers,” he said after launching St John Ambulance Malaysia’s disaster preparedness and management project yesterday.

Chinese school head transferred after alleged racial incident

The headmistress of a Chinese primary school involved in an alleged racial attack on a teacher has been transferred to the district Education Department, pending an investigation.

This is according to Education Minister Mahdzir Khalid, who added that a special team has been formed to investigate this issue.

“The headmistress has been placed temporarily at the district Education Department until the investigations are completed.

“The three Malay teachers involved will be transferred out of that school,” Mahdzir said in a Facebook posting today.

He urged everyone to avoid jumping to the conclusion that this is a racial incident, as such cases are rare.

The full report on this case should be ready within three days from the start of the investigations, he added.

Perkasa wants headmistress booted out of Mersing

Perkasa has reacted angrily to a case of alleged assault on a teacher of a primary school in Mersing, Johor: it wants the headmistress booted out.

The demand was made following allegation that the headmistress of SJK(C) Pai Chee had attempted to transfer the Malay teacher in the wake of the incident.

“The headmistress must apologise to the Malay teacher who fell victim (to the assault); the headmistress must be driven out (dikeluarkan) from Mersing,” said Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali.

Ibrahim said the incident warranted the attention of the authorities before it spreads and causes “further harm”.

He added that the incident would not have happened if the school had adopted a Malay-centric education system.

“Is Pai Chee Malay-centric or Chinese-centric? Being soft, gentle, polite and respectful of others are among the charecteristic of the Malays. This is Malay-centric,” said Ibrahim.

This is not an isolated case, he said.

“If the allegation that they (the school) do not want Malay teachers (is true), what is intention?” he asked.

“What should we call such behaviour if not racist and chauvinist?”

He urged the Education Ministry to take brave and stern action to rectify the situation.

“If the education system in Malaysia continues to be a mess, this would endanger the future of the nation,” he said.

Teacher claims attack by student’s dad, cops deny racism

A Chinese primary school teacher in Johor has lodged a police report against the father of a student, whom she claims assaulted her.

Salina Daud, 49, lodged the report yesterday after the man allegedly threw books and teaching equipment at her, when he barged into the teacher’s common room.

Copies of the report were uploaded on several blogs and the incident took a racial slant. However, the police denied this.

“On Jan 13, at about 12.20pm, the student’s father came to the school and attacked me, throwing books and other teaching equipment while I was in the teacher’s common room,” said Salina in her report.

During one lesson on Jan 5, Salina, who teaches in Mersing’s SJKC Pai Chee, claimed the man’s son had cursed her using the Chinese language.

She later complained to his class teacher about the incident but claimed that no action was taken.

“I am not happy because the school’s administration is not protecting me as a teacher at the school,” she said.

Salina also alleged this is not the first time such an incident occurred, accusing the school’s headmaster of having previously attempted to force the resignation or transfer of her and two other Malay teachers.

The teacher accused the headmistress of stating that the Chinese community in that area did not want Malay teachers in the school.

“The headmistress also met with the district education department in order to remove us on the grounds that Malay teachers are not good in teaching and don’t cooperate,” she claimed.
