Calls for security at Bukit Gasing mount as promised cops fail to appear
Visitors are calling for better security on Bukit Gasing, Petaling Jaya.
Section 6 resident Andrew Sin, 64, who visits the forest four times a week claims that youths are entering the park on motorcycles through the Kuala Lumpur side of Bukit Gasing.
“The youths can be seen swimming and hanging around the gazebo in the area. The authorities should stop motorcycles from entering the park,” he said.
The Malaysian Insider visited the area and found motorcycles parked in the vicinity of the park. There were also several youths swimming in one of the streams.
No police personnel was seen at the entrance at 6.15pm.
Police yesterday assured hikers that there would be more patrols in the area after two recent incidents.
Petaling Jaya police chief Mohd Zani Che Din was reported as saying that three policemen would be stationed at the main entrance of the hiking path and would patrol the fringes of the forest reserve.
“They will be stationed during peak hours in the morning and evening to ensure the safety of hikers,” The Star quoted him as saying.

Security at Bukit Gasing ‘under control’ despite recent attacks, say cops
Police have assured hikers in Bukit Gasing, Petaling Jaya, that they would have more patrol in the area after two recent incidents.
Petaling Jaya police chief Mohd Zani Che Din said police would now station three officers at the main entrance of the hiking path and patrol the fringes of the forest reserve.
“They will be stationed around peak hours in the mornings and evenings to ensure the safety of hikers,” The Star quoted him as saying.
On Thursday, blogger Rebecca Saw was hiking alone when two men on a motorcycle rode up to her. One of them grabbed her hand which was holding her iPhone.
Saw struggled with the attackers who also ripped her top. The struggle caused her to tumble down a slope and she sustained minor cuts on her back.
A few hours later, a 51-year-old real estate agent was carjacked by a man who appeared to have a gun.
She was taken on an hour-long terror ride and when she said she did not have RM150,000 that he demanded, the man dumped her by the roadside near the New Pantai Expressway and drove off in her new car.

Agent taken for terror ride at Bukit Gasing
PETALING JAYA: A real estate agent was taken for an hour-long terror ride by a man armed with a weapon that looked like a pistol.
The attacker, who wore a cap, bundled the woman into her car and demanded cash in return for her release.
The 51-year-old lady, who wished to remain anonymous, said she had gone to Bukit Gasing for a hike with her friends in the morning.
“It was around 8.50am when I walked back to my Mazda CX-5 when the man suddenly sprang out and ambushed me with what looked like a gun.
“He forced me into my car and drove off, demanding RM150,000 in order to release me,” she told a Chinese daily on Thursday.
The real estate agent said she told the robber that she did not have that much money.
She said the robber dumped her by the side of the New Pantai Expressway about an hour later and drove off in her month-old car.
The woman sought the assistance of another motorist to go to the Petaling Jaya police headquarters to lodge a report.
