From #2Kerja to GST, top 10 Ahmad Maslan gaffes http://bit.ly/1PYlUdP

Datuk Ahmad Maslan has been replaced as Umno information chief, a post he held since 2009.
But thanks to his bumbling advice on range of issues, most of it fired on Twitter, Ahmad has earned ridicule and become a favourite among social media users.
…
EXCERPTS
1. Saya tak lah bodoh sangat. Ijazah pertama di Victoria University Wellington New Zealand. MBA di UKM pelajar terbaik drpd 177. CGPA 3.85. (I am not that stupid. My first degree was from Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand. I did my MBA at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. I was the top student out of 177, with a CGPA of 3.85.)
2. Why don’t they (Pakatan Rakyat) want GST? Because when prices of goods and services fall, the opposition will not have any fodder to hit out at the government. All these while they associated Barisan Nasional (BN) with the jibe ‘Barang Naik’, but when GST comes into force, they claim it will not work.
3. I think the people around him did not give him the proper explanation about GST. The GST percentage is much lower than SST. So, how can he say it’s better for the government to cancel GST?
4. Once in a while I prepare a meal for the family. Mixed fried rice with a GST-free recipe. Served as it is. After cooking I have an Umno programme. (Sesekali sedia sarapan utk keluarga. Nasi goreng campur resepi tiada GST. Hidang terus. Lepas masak ini ada prgm UMNO).
5. Fitnah! Ini kerja pembangkang! Saya tak ada Rolex Submariner & tak pernah memakainya. Jam saya yg biasa saja. (Lies! This is the work of the opposition. I don’t own a Rolex Submariner and never worn it. My watch is an ordinary one).
6. The 3% are the lazy ones, ladies and gentlemen… They are worse than just lazy. There are around 300,000 of them, who are just sitting and doing nothing.
7. I have three jobs: member of parliament, deputy minister, Umno information chief. Many in Malaysia are already holding two jobs #2Kerja. Work hard for halal income.
8. Dr Asri and Dr Agus don’t understand GST, just like Dr Mahathir. That is all I can say. I hope those who advise and report to Dr Mahathir will give him the right picture. Don’t give him wrong information. Kesian orang tua tu (pity the old man).
9. Today is May 13. In 1969, I was three years old. We hope and pray that the bloody episode never happens again.
10. If people were to ask me whether Barisan Nasional could win if an election was held tomorrow, I would say: “There’s no election tomorrow”.

KUALA LUMPUR — Many Malaysians work two jobs to supplement their income, but they now feel the pinch from the rising cost of living.
And to them, the suggestion by Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Ahmad Maslan to work two jobs was not only stating the obvious, but also unsympathetic.
Clerk by day, driver by night
Amiruddin Man, a clerk at a higher education institution in Penang, took on a second job two years ago, driving a taxi after he clocked out from work.
But owner of the taxi has since taken back the vehicle, and Amiruddin now uses his own car to drive customers.
“If I were to rent a taxi, it would cost me RM40 (S$13) a day, which is not worth it because I can only start after 6pm, and business is slow on weekdays,” the 31-year-old told The Malaysian Insider.
Mr Amiruddin now uses his private car despite knowing it is illegal, but said it was a risk he had to face.
He said he was not a registered Uber driver because he could not meet the kind of conditions and requirements laid down by Uber.
…
“I am not getting rich from it…
…
Mr Amiruddin admitted he was not allowed to take a second job without his employer’s permission.
“I have colleagues who are also working second jobs, but we all make sure our other jobs do not affect our day jobs. We only do it after our official working hours.
…
Since 2014, housewife Siti Hajar Hasan has been running an online business selling supplements and Muslim women clothes to help lessen her family’s financial burden.
Her online business, via Facebook, her blog and Instagram account, earned her a three- or four-digit income a month, depending on how hard she worked.
“How hard I work and earn depends on how much money my family needs for the month. I have not been doing it very seriously. It is quite time-consuming and I also have a young daughter and home to manage.
…
But now, to cope with the rising cost of living, Ms Siti Hajar has taken on another job – managing a new kindergarten in Kepala Batas, mainland Penang.
…
For more than 30 years, office runner, K Chandrasegaran, has been waking up before dawn to sell newspapers between 6am and 7am, before starting for his regular 9am-5pm office job.
…
At 54 and nearing retirement age, Mr Chandrasegaran has one less mouth to feed since his eldest son has started working in Singapore, and is not too worried about his shrinking income due to a decline in newspaper circulation.
…
“I am glad my son managed to get work in Singapore where the currency is better than ours now. He is not contributing to the family expenses yet, but I believe it will be easier for him to do so after working a few years,” he said.
Single mother Nur Suria Abd Aziz, 38, is a cook and food stall assistant by day, and a supermarket promoter by night. She earns a total of RM1,320 from both jobs.

YOU KNOW YOU’RE IN SERIOUS TROUBLE WHEN BUNG MOKHTAR COMES TO YOUR RESCUE!
Work harder advice – Bung Moktar comes to Ahmad Maslan’s defence
malaysiakini.com @malaysiakini
…

…
A fellow outspoken BN backbencher has defended Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Ahmad Maslan for his much criticised “two jobs” comment.
“The suggestion to hold two jobs is to increase one’s earnings, this is called value-added, and not to burden the rakyat,” Kinabatangan MP Bung Moktar Radin said on Twitter.
He said that Ahmad’s suggestion on how to increase the rakyat’s earnings in the face of rising cost of living is good advice, refuting the idea that it would be a burden to the public.
…
No stranger to controversy himself, Bung has often been accused of putting his own foot in his mouth various times.
His lambast and rhetoric have become a staple of parliamentary debates and had sparked several public outcries, which some say led the government to stop live parliamentary broadcasts.
Among others, the Sabah elected representative had once got into hot water for his “bocor” comments in relation to the leaky roof of Parliament House.
He also stepped into a minefield when he made remarks that seem to insinuate that women are bad drivers.

‘Stop whining’ Ahmad Maslan a prized opposition asset: PKR
Pakatan Harapan has several prized assets which win votes, and according to PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli, the top two are Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor.
In third place is International Trade and Industry Deputy Minister Ahmad Maslan, who is a magnet for controversies.
“I hope Ahmad Maslan embarks on a nationwide campaign on this soon. Each time he opens his mouth – more people will run away from Umno and BN.
“Apart from Najib and Rosmah, Ahmad Maslan is easily Pakatan Harapan’s third most prized asset in getting votes for us,” Rafizi told Malaysiakini.
The PKR leader was commenting on the deputy minister’s remarks during a talk show on TV3, where he said Malaysians must stop complaining about the cost of living.

Ahmad Maslan says no way cost of living will come down
Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan today said there was no possibility for the cost of living to go down, adding that this was the reality faced all over the world.
The Malay Mail Online reported he said this during an interview on TV3’s talk show, “Wanita Hari Ini”.
The minister, who recently courted controversy for suggesting Malaysians to take up two jobs, also advised Malaysians to change their attitudes in order to cope with the current lifestyle and learn to supplement their income.
He also reportedly urged the people to look online for ways to earn more and in the process elevate Malaysia’s status as an enterprising country.
“My daughter buys her headscarves online. My son buys his shoes online. Food also we buy online. But why are we just buying? Now we must be the sellers too,” he was quoted as saying.
Ahmad Maslan also urged the public to stop giving excuses and instead look for new business opportunities, the news portal reported.
He also advised Malaysians to be smart consumers and only buy from ethical vendors in order to manage rising costs.

Nando’s creative response to YB @ahmadmaslan‘s #2Kerja

Ahmad Maslan changes controversial hashtag
KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Ahmad Maslan has changed his controversial hashtag #2Kerja (two jobs) to #TambahPendapatan (increase income).
“My twitter tagline is now #TambahPendapatan and is different from the previous hashtag #2Kerja,” the Deputy International Trade and Industry told reporters after attending the National Book Award appreciation ceremony here on Monday.
He acknowledged that the earlier hashtag had courted negative response on social media after it was taken out of context.
The new hashtag, he said, was more positive as agencies under his ministry would work towards helping increase incomes of families and those in the rural areas.
“It’s regrettable that I had become the target on social media since the launch of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
“Of course I do not like it and hope that things can be spun positively instead,” he said.
