BELGRADE, Serbia – A man aboard a Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Belgrade was arrested Sunday after threatening to open a plane door during the flight, Serbian authorities said.
Passengers quoted by Belgrade media said the man banged on a cockpit door threatening to bring down the plane while it was flying over Austria if he was not allowed inside.
Lufthansa said the cabin crew and passengers on Flight 1406 managed to restrain him for the rest of the journey, adding that the plane doors can’t be opened during a flight anyway.
The plane landed safely in Belgrade and the passenger was handed over to local authorities, Lufthansa spokesman Andreas Bartels said.

Passengers, including players of a Serbian handball team, said the man acted irrationally from the start of the flight.
“About halfway into the flight he tried to open a plane door, but the cabin crew stopped him,” said the president of the Vojvodina handball team, Milan Djukic, adding that two players “guarded” the suspect for the rest of the flight while he was restrained in business class.

Man overpowered on Lufthansa flight after trying to open door
Lufthansa crew and passengers overpowered a man who interfered with a cabin door on a Frankfurt-Belgrade flight on Sunday, the German carrier said, insisting the safety of the plane had not been threatened.
“A passenger got up and tried to do something at the door, but was stopped by crew members and other passengers,” said airline spokesman Andreas Bartels.
“The passenger was then restrained for the remainder of the flight in his seat and handed over to the authorities in Belgrade,” he said.

Serbian state-run television reported that police had arrested a Jordanian man after he tried to forced his way into the cockpit of the Lufthansa flight.
The man had suddenly got up during the flight, banged on the cockpit door and demanded to be allowed to enter, threatening to open one of the plane’s doors while it was flying over Austria, Serbia’s RTS television reported.

RK Vojvodina players suddenly became heroes in Serbia after unexpected troubles on their flight back from Porto, where they lost 37:15 in the last EHF Champions League match of the season. On the Lufthansa flight from German Frankfurt to Belgrade, one of the passengers wanted to open cockpit, but cabin crew with the help of RK Vojvodina guys, prevented him from making some serious problem:
