KUALA LUMPUR: One of the men depicted in a viral video brutally assaulting and robbing a woman in a Setapak condominium elevator, is a hardcore criminal, with no less than 11 robbery cases linked to him.

This was disclosed by police following a series of arrests made in connection with the case, which had captured public attention due to the level of violence meted out by the assailants on their victim.

Eight suspects, aged between 16 and 33, were picked up in a series of raids between 12pm and 5pm yesterday.

Wangsa Maju district police chief Superintendent Mohamad Roy Suhaimi Sarif said the first suspect was detained together with his four accomplices, including the teenager in a hotel room near Jalan Ipoh about 12pm.

“After questioning the first suspect, we picked up another suspect in Taman Setapak Indah.

“This suspect, a 25-year-old, was one of the men who involved in the case.

“On the day of the incident, he was waiting for his two friends in an MPV while two others robbed and attacked the woman in the elevator.

“The seventh suspect, a 26-year-old man, who was in the elevator, was picked up at Taman Seri Bukit Ampang about 4pm.

“The man had a criminal record for his involvement in 11 robbery cases,” Roy told a press conference at the Wangsa Maju police headquarters here today.

Video of woman beaten up and robbed in lift goes viral

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24, 2015:

A woman was left with two broken teeth, knee injuries and bruises on her body after being beaten up by two men in a lift of an apartment building in Setapak.

Wangsa Maju district police chief Superintendent Mohamad Roy Suhaimi said in the incident that took place at 11.40pm, the victim, 23, was alone in the lift of the Setapak Prima condominium with two unknown men.

“When the victim was waiting to reach her floor, the two men suddenly attacked her by shoving her face towards the lift.

“Then two men involved snatched her handbag while kicking her stomach as she fought back, until she was dragged out the lift,” he said when contacted by The Rakyat Post.

Mohamad Roy added investigations found that the suspects involved did not live at the apartments and only entered with the intention to steal.

“Following the incident, the victim made a police report the next day at the nearest police station.

“However, the victim did not sustain serious injuries and was only given outpatient treatment,” he explained.
