Nilai abandoned teen dies
PETALING JAYA: The 16-year-old teenager who was found malnourished and left abandoned in a flat in Nilai in June last year has passed away.
Muhammad Firdaus Dullah died at the Tuanku Jaafar Hospital in Seremban due to a seizure.
Negri Sembilan welfare, women and family development committee chairman Datuk Norhayati Omar confirmed Firdaus’ death in a short statement.
Firdaus was found naked and in soiled t-shirt and covered in his own faeces and urine in the flat by Immigration officers who were conducting checks to weed out illegals in Taman Semarak on June 22, last year.
The room was littered with broken polysterene boxes. While there was a wheelchair in the room, the teen could only move on his buttocks and could not use his legs.
Investigations revealed that he had been left there by his relatives as they could not care for him.

Malnourished boy’s mom arrested

SEREMBAN: The mother of the malnourished special needs teenager (OKU) who was kept in captivity in Taman Semarak, Nilai, has been arrested by police last night.
Nilai police chief Superintendent Abdullah Roning said the woman is under remand for four days until next Wednesday.
“She was arrested at her home in Semarak flats to facilitate investigation,” said Abdullah.

State Immigration director Faizal Fazri Othman said investigations revealed the teenager’s name was Muhammad Firdaus Dullah and that he was of Bajau descent.

Boy doing fine after treatment
PETALING JAYA: The disabled boy who was discovered malnourished and suspected of being abused is doing fine after medical treatment.
Negri Sembilan’s women, family and community development exco Datuk Norhayati Omar said preliminary medical tests performed on the boy showed he was fine.
“However, doctors are trying to establish why he has lost so much weight and is malnourished,” she said, adding that Muhammad Firdaus was also given a hair cut and bath when he was brought to the hospital.
A state welfare department official said the boy would be sent to one of its homes where his condition would be monitored for 30 days.

Disabled teen left to fend for himself
Pitiful sight: An officer with Muhammad Firdaus at the flat unit in Taman Semarak, Nilai.
NILAI: An Immigration team conducting checks to weed out illegals walked into a shocking sight at a block of flats in Taman Semarak near here – a severely malnourished and physically handicapped teenager locked in a unit.
The 15-year-old boy, who is also believed to be mentally challenged, was naked but for a tattered, soiled t-shirt and was covered in his own faeces and urine in one of the rooms of the unit.
The officers themselves were stunned. “Oh God! This is so cruel,” said the officer who stumbled upon the boy.

KUCHING: Investigations are being carried out to determine why special needs teenager was kept in captivity and left malnourished in Taman Semarak, Nilai.
The teenager was found during a raid on illegal immigrants at a flat unit in the housing area.
Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim who was saddened by the incident said the Welfare Services Department has been directed to investigate.
The teenager is expected to be placed at a welfare home and every effort was being made to give him comfort.
