Call it a “rubber plantation”, if you will.
In one corner of a small jungle in Woodlands, there are used condoms and condom wrappers strewn all over the ground.
The hundreds of condoms are a by-product of a jungle brothel that has been in and out of business for the past 14 years.
The New Paper first reported on the jungle brothel in May 2004.
Lianhe Wanbao recently revisited the site, which is situated between Woodlands Avenue 4 and 9, and found that the site’s clandestine activities were back and thriving.
As night fell, men could be seen walking into the jungle. Some went in alone, while others arrived in groups.
In the space of half an hour, 30 men were seen walking into the area, during the stakeout by the Chinese evening daily.
They are believed to be living in nearby dormitories.

The space is secluded and surrounded by trees. Wooden poles erected on the ground hold up canvas sheets, forming a makeshift room.
A torn mattress wrapped in canvas sheets sits in the middle.
Each session on the mattress is said to last between 10 and 20 minutes.
Wanbao reported that the brothel is open every day and enjoys good business.

Woodlands Town Garden Is Transvestite ‘Heaven’.
Tucked away in a corner of Marsiling close to the Causeway and housing blocks, the park was built in 1983, with seven Chinese pavilions and six Malay huts on stilts – a design which won it the SIA Architectural Design Award in 1986.

It is midnight on a Thursday, and three “sisters”, which is how they like to be known, are sitting at a bus stop outside the Woodlands Town Garden.
The transvestites, dressed in heels and tight dresses, are not waiting for transport. Instead, they are on the look out for customers, waving men over with manicured hands – sometimes whispering “service, service”.
On offer are sexual services costing between $30 and $50.
“Prices can be discussed,” says one of the prostitutes, who is willing to reveal more details on the late night going-ons at the park.
The services are carried out in cars or in the park, if customers do not drive. “We also do it behind lorries,” she adds.
Most customers start arriving from 1am till about 3am, but some of the prostitutes start work as early as 9pm. Demand is higher on Fridays and Saturdays, and more of her “sisters” – as many as seven – will congregate there, says another transvestite.
One prostitute, who has been soliciting at the park for seven years, adds that it is mostly foreign workers who ask for their services.
“Very few Singaporeans. Some only come and see see and try.”

Halimah Yacob to ask NParks to upgrade Woodlands Town Garden to deter vice activities there; urges police to step up patrols and raids
Newly elected MP for Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC Halimah Yacob has pledged to clean up Woodlands Town Garden, a heartland park that has grown infamous for its nightly vice activities.
Residents told The Sunday Times that they avoid the park and forbid their children from going there. Similar concerns were shared with her during the recent election campaign, said Madam Halimah, when asked about the issue.
She revealed that she would be approaching the National Parks Board (NParks) to ask the agency to develop and upgrade the park, to “eliminate its attraction to those committing vice”.
“This is something that NParks should seriously consider,” she said, highlighting how 2,000 new Housing Board residential units will be coming up in that area in a couple of years. The new residents, too, “should not be inconvenienced by such activities”, she added.
She also urged police to step up patrols and conduct raids at the park more regularly.

But over the last decade, it has developed a seedy reputation. The 11ha park is largely deserted in the day. At night, transvestite prostitutes solicit for business at its carpark – always full with vans and lorries parked overnight, and at a bus stop next to it.
The sex trade gets busier over the weekends, when as many as seven prostitutes ply their trade. Services are offered for as low as $30. Customers are often foreign workers, although Singapore-registered cars can also be seen pulling into the carpark. A check of a gay online forum also shows that the park is sometimes where strangers meet up for a tryst.
