Taxi driver Hanizan Mohamed Radzi, who sent an abducted five-year-old boy to his home last month was conferred the Special Category Award by the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD).

Hanizan, 42, was presented the award for his honesty and concern in sending the boy home after seeing the child alone on the street and recognising him as the boy who was kidnapped in Sungai Dua.

Spad chairperson Syed Hamid Albar presented the award to Hanizan at a dinner in Kuala Lumpur last night. The award was one of three new categories introduced by Spad.

Father of kidnapped boy buys print ad to clear taxi driver’s name

PETALING JAYA: The father of a kidnapped boy has bought a print advertisement to clear the name of the taxi driver who reunited him with his family.

In a notice posted in a Malay daily, the boy’s father, 31, said that he and his family were confident that cab driver Hanizan Mohamed Radzi, 41, was not involved in the kidnapping of his son.

The father of the boy also thanked him and said that he was very grateful to Hanizan for safely bringing his son home.

However, he also expressed regret that Hanizan’s and his family’s lives had been affected.

The father stressed that Hanizan had acted nobly and that he sincerely hoped his support would bring justice to him and his family.

He also stated that he wanted to ensure that Hanizan’s reputation was not tarnished by the incident.

Kidnapping case: Taxi driver begs to have name cleared

PETALING JAYA: The taxi driver who drove a kidnap victim back to his home but was later arrested by the police on suspicion of being a part of the boy’s kidnapping earlier in the day, has begged the police to clear his name since he was not involved in the crime.

In a report in The Star Online, Hanizan Mohamed Radzi, 41, pleaded with the police to “clear” his name as his arrest and subsequent one-week detention by police had brought great embarrassment to his family.

“My children are embarrassed for me. Please, please clear my name.

“I just drive a taxi. I didn’t do anything,” he said, looking weary as he was led out of the magistrate’s court today.

According to a report in Astro Awani, police had decided to release the taxi driver after they could find no link between him and the five-year-old boy’s kidnapping hours earlier in Sungai Chua, Kajang, last Friday.

Speaking to the news portal, Selangor CID chief Mohd Adnan Abdullah said, ”So far we could not find any links between the taxi driver and the boy’s kidnapping case.”

He also said the taxi driver would be released with a bond under Section 49 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

KUALA LUMPUR: A businessman, a lorry driver and an Indonesian labourer were charged at the Kajang Magistrate’s Court today over their alleged involvement in a recent kidnapping of a five-year-boy for RM300,000 ransom.

Siow Kek Keong, 44, Mohd Saifulamry Jarkasi, 28, and Riduansyah Yahya, 32, were accused of abducting the child at Jalan Seroja near house No. 40 at Taman Setia, Sungai Chua, Kajang, Selangor, at 9.26am on Oct 9.

The trio allegedly kidnapped the child in order to secure a RM300,000 ransom.

Cabbie to be released, no links to kidnappers of Kajang boy, say cops

SHAH ALAM: The taxi-driver detained over the kidnapping of a five-year-old boy in Kajang will be released later Thursday.

Police said the man, who found the boy and returned him to his family, had no links to the kidnappers.

He will be released with a bond under Section 49 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Four men including mastermind in kidnap of five-year-old boy arrested

SHAH ALAM: Police have detained four men including the mastermind in the kidnap of a five-year-old boy in Sungai Chua, Kajang yesterday.

The suspects, aged between 28 to 45 years, including an Indonesian and a taxi driver who sent the boy home, were detained separately last night.

Selangor Police chief Datuk Abdul Samah Mat said, the father of the victim received a telephone call at 10.50am demanding a ransom of RM300,000, in a follow-up to the kidnap at 9.26am yesterday.

He said the latter delivered the ransom and placed by the roadside near a major supermarket in Saujana Impian, Kajang as instructed by the suspects.

Subsequently, the boy was freed at 5.40pm and a taxi driver drove him to his family in Taman Suria, Sungai Chua, he said.

“Following the case, police set up a special team to investigate the incident, and two men were detained as a result of intelligence work, in front of a mini market in Jalan Sungai Chua, in the first arrest at 10.10pm last night.

“The 28-year-old man and an Indonesian national, 32, were detained in a proton saga. Inspection found the car to be the same one which was used during the kidnap,” he told reporters here, today.

He said RM30,000 in cash was found under the car seat and a pair of false identification plates, which were believed used during the kidnapping, was also found in the car.

Afterwards at 12.15am, today he said police detained a local man, aged 45 years, who was believed to be the mastermind of the kidnapping, in his house in Kajang Raya, Sungai Chua.

He said an inspection found RM1,050 in cash in his wallet and RM60,500 under his motorcycle seat outside the house.

“Police also seized a purple bag which was believed to have been used by the father of the victim for the ransom money,” he said.
