Penang CM denies ‘leave state’ tweet over loudspeakers
Penang @cmlimguaneng denies ‘leave state’ tweet over loudspeakers https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/314305

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has denied sending out a tweet calling for those who do not agree to the ban on mosque loudspeakers except for azan prayers to leave the state.
Lim said a police report will be lodged over the fake tweet today, asking the force and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to speedily act upon the matter.

He expressed hope that the public would not believe the lies that he was responsible for the fake tweet.
He added that the tweet was sent by certain quarters to tarnish the state government and distract the public from the many alleged financial scandals plaguing the country.
“I have never issued such a statement nor have I intervened in the Muslim affairs of the state,” Lim said at a press conference today.
“The decision to allow mosques’ loudspeakers for only azan prayers were made by the Penang Mufti Department, the Penang Islamic Affairs Council and the Penang Islam Affairs Department.
“To link me to such a thing is malicious and slanderous,” added the DAP secretary-general.

Posters on the rally were on several blogs and Facebook today, claiming that it was aimed at urging the state government to rescind the ban against the use of loudspeakers in mosques and surau throughout Penang.
The rally is to be at Komtar after the Friday prayers tomorrow, although nobody has admitted to organising it.

‘Mufti’s letter on loudspeaker leaked to create unrest’
‘Mufti’s letter on loudspeaker leaked to create unrest’ https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/314187

Penang executive councillor for Islamic Affairs Abdul Malik Kassim expressed regret today that a letter from the state Mufti Department had been leaked to create unrest in the Muslim community.
Malik said due to the leaked letter, which was released “with bad intentions to create public unrest”, the Penang government and Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng are being blamed for interfering in Islamic matters in the state.
“That is not true. This decision has nothing to do with us but because the letter has been leaked with bad intention to create problems, certain quarters have threatened to rally and carry out activities to demonise the state government.
“We are investigating how the letter was leaked and who did it, and we will act accordingly, including lodging a police report.

PKR Youth: All states must also ban mosque loudspeakers https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/314198

PKR Youth urges all states to emulate the Penang Islamic Council’s ban on the use of loudspeakers by mosques other than to broadcast the azan.
The Penang Mufti Office in a letter on Sept 1 said the edict by the state fatwa committee to ban the use of loudspeakers other than for the call for prayer, will be gazetted soon.
“Respect for each other must be encouraged, given Malaysia’s multicultural and multi-religious nature.
“Thus, we support the fatwa by the Penang mufti based on the spirit of maqasid syariah (the objectives of the syariah).
“In fact, it should be used as an example for all other states in Malaysia,” PKR Youth religious bureau representative Wan Ji Wan Hussin said.

Guan Eng warns pro-BN media not to drum up communal strife for Penang smear
“I’ve been accused of eating dog meat yesterday even though I’m a dog lover so maybe today, they will accuse me of issuing a fatwa even though I’m a non-Muslim and I can’t issue fatwas,” he said.
A fatwa is an Islamic religious edict conventionally issued by an Islamic religious leader such as a mufti.

Ban on loudspeaker use except for ‘azan’ in Penang mosques
The decision on banning the use of loudspeakers outside the mosques and surau except for the prayer call or ‘azan’ and ‘iqamah’ in Penang will be gazetted soon.
This was stated in a letter from the Penang State Mufti Office dated Sept 1 concerning the decision of the Penang State Fatwa Committee meeting on July 1 and 2 and confirmed at the Penang State Fatwa Committee meeting on Aug 23 and 24.
The letter quoting excerpts of the minutes of the Penang State Fatwa Committee Meeting stated that the meeting had agreed that the command decided at the State Fatwa Committee Meeting dated April 7, 2011 on the prohibition of reading the Al-Quran before ‘Subuh’ (dawn) using the loudspeakers outside the mosque and surau must be improved by including the prohibition on the use of loudspeakers outside the mosques and surau for all programmes, meetings and so on.
Only the use of internal loudspeakers are allowed for programmes and activities at the mosques and surau.
Ten complaints had been received by the Penang Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAIPP) on the use of loudspeakers in mosques and surau from January 2012 until May 2015 involving external loud speakers for recordings of Al-Quran recitals or ceramah before the call of prayer (azan).
