PTPTN returns deductions to 3,193

PETALING JAYA: The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) has returned the monthly deduction of this month’s current repayment to 3,193 borrowers following appeals from various groups and individuals.

This was in response to the issue highlighted by the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) as one of the individuals was left with only RM19 in the bank account after the PTPTN deduction.

The payment slip of a civil servant where PTPTN had deducted RM2,063.75 from his salary went viral online recently.

PTPTN chairman Datuk Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said the borrowers should immediately come forward and discuss with PTPTN on how to settle their loans before Jan 18.

“If the borrower fails to discuss within the said time, the total maximum mandatory reduction noted in the letter sent to him will be continued,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said the fund could restructure the payment period with lower amount of monthly deduction for those who could not afford to pay the amount stated.

However, he said the borrower must come forward to discuss the matter.

Cuepacs has called on the PTPTN to reconsider the deduction due to the high cost of living.

PTPTN to explain salary deduction for civil servants

National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) is expected to hold a special press conference on Monday to explain the maximum level of salary deduction imposed on civil servants to repay their loans.

However, PTPTN chairperson Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said the explanation would only be given after they had examined all the relevant policies, or whether there was a need for PTPTN to issue a press statement on the matter.

“We will hold a press conference on Monday or issue a press release, if we have no time to hold the press conference. There are policies that we need to study,” Shamsul said when contacted today.

Cuepacs president Azih Muda regretted that there were civil servants whose salaries were cut at the maximum rate, adding that the action was unjustified and a further financial burden for them amid the rising cost of living.

Azih disclosed that almost 3,000 civil servants had their salaries deducted at between 30 and 100 per cent for repayment of their PTPTN loans.

Cuepacs may withdraw authorisation on PTPTN deductions

Bernama     Published 23 Dec 2015

The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) may withdraw the authorisation for the National Higher Education Loan Fund (PTPTN) to make cuts in the salaries of civil servants, if the agency continues to implement maximum cuts.

Cuepacs president Azih Muda expressed regret today that there were civil servants whose salaries were cut by the fund, for PTPTN loan repayment deductions, up to a maximum rate, adding that the action was not justified and a burden to their financial position.

“There are civil servants whose pay slip is left with only RM19! What will they eat then?

“Cuepacs would also like to remind that we will not hesitate to withdraw the decision to allow civil servants to have their salaries cut to pay PTPTN,” Azih told reporters after chairing Cuepas’ 2015 meeting in Kuala Lumpur.

He advised PTPTN to be more mindful of the civil servants in performing deductions from their salaries, so as not to leave them financially burdened.

Pay cuts from September for PTPTN borrowers in civil service

PUTRAJAYA: National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) borrowers from the Public Service Department (PSD) will face mandatory pay cuts beginning September.

PSD director-general Tan Sri Mohamed Zabidi Zainal said his department would lead the way for other government agencies to implement compulsory salary deductions.

“The PSD should set an example to all other civil servants, that its staff members are willing to pay their PTPTN loans.

“As we have the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations coming up, we expect to implement mandatory pay deductions in September,” said Mohamed Zabidi at a PTPTN briefing session for PSD staff here Monday.

He said there were 480 PSD officers who would be subjected to the pay cuts.

As for other borrowers in the civil service, Mohamed Zabidi said he would be meeting the secretaries-general of all the ministries on Friday to discuss the move.

KUALA LUMPUR: Those who have relapsed on National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) study loans could soon find themselves “eased” into repayment of loans if Congress of Unions of Employees in Public and Civil Service (Cuepacs) president Datuk Azih Muda has his way.

Azih has proposed a salary deduction scheme, which the National Co-operative Movement of Malaysia (ANGKASA) is ready to implement in order for the PTPTN to recoup some 33,000 relapsed loans that have affected the body’s capability to support studies of subsequent generations of students.

KJ: Punish govt servants who default on student loans

No excuse for those holding senior government positions not to repay PTPTN loans

PUTRAJAYA: Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has suggested that disciplinary action be taken against public servants who failed to make repayments of their student loans from the National Higher Education Fund Corporation. He said there was no excuse, especially for those holding senior government posts, to not repay their PTPTN loans. “Loan borrowers who do not make repayments have breached their agreement and they are also denying the rights of other students for the facility. “As we know, the amount of PTPTN loan has been reduced because many (borrowers) do not pay back,” he added. Khairy said the Public Services Department should consider taking disciplinary action against those involved. http://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/nation/2015/06/14/kj-punish-govt-servants-who-default-on-student-loans/ —–
