PETALING JAYA: Malaysian student Christine Jiaxin Lee, dubbed the “accidental millionaire” in Australia is said to have bought one of the most sought-after handbags in the world during her multi-million ringgit shopping spree.
The Sydney Morning Herald, quoting court documents, said Lee had one of the rarest Hermes Birkin handbags, a Himalayan Birkin made of the skins of specially-bred crocodiles, which would have cost about A$150,000 (RM440,000).
Birking handbags command waiting lists of up to six years, with prices starting at about US$12,000 (RM48,000).

RM820k handbag not Rosmah’s, says aide
Rosmah Mansor’s handbag featured in a photograph widely circulated on social media is not the same as the Hermes Birkin bag sold for RM820,000 in an auction, said her aide Rizal Mansor.
He said this in reference to a photograph of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s wife carrying a similar-looking handbag, accompanied by a screenshot of a news report about the auction.

However, Rizal said checks found that the handbag carried by Rosmah was not the same as the Hermes Birkin.
“After checking, I found that the photograph (of Rosmah) circulated was an old photograph taken four years ago at Kompleks Bunga Raya, Kuala Lumpur International Airport, when Najib and Rosmah were leaving for an overseas trip.
“However, a Wall Street Journal report said the Hermes Birkin handbag that was auctioned is a new model made in 2014 and auctioned in June 2015.
“So, how could Rosmah possibly be carrying the same handbag in the photograph?” he asked.
