Cops searching for armed robbers in Taman Tun park find squatters instead
KUALA LUMPUR: Police were hunting for a group of six armed robbers, but found 29 squatters instead.
The 29, including 11 women and 13 children, were squatting in several makeshift homes in the forest area near Lembah Kiara recreational park in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) here.
Police were searching for armed robbers in the park after they were seen fleeing into the area having planned to break into several houses near the area.
Brickfields OCPD Senior Asst Comm Muhammad Azlee Abdullah said that of the 29 people, only three had proper documents, with one of them a Malaysian and two Indonesian nationals. The rest did not have any documents.
…
Meanwhile, SAC Muhammad Azlee said they were investigating if the squatters arrested had links to the six suspects.

IGP: Hunt is still on for suspected TTDI robbers
KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 — Inspector-general of police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar today said police are widening their dragnet in efforts to catch a group of suspected armed robbers hiding in the forests of the Lembah Kiara Recreation Park in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI).
He said the police have deployed more personnel to comb the park’s forested area, which the suspects are believed to have used for cover since 5am yesterday.
“The group (deployed) to find them has been made bigger today,” he told reporters after an event at the police training centre here.
Khalid also clarified that the chase for the suspects started from an ambush that was carried out yesterday morning – the result of surveillance of the TTDI area after a spike in reported break-ins.
“Lately there has been a lot of break-ins at TTDI, that is why yesterday the police ambushed them in the area,” he said.

Cops close park in hunt for burglars
The recreational park was closed to the public until 3pm to help the police comb the area. It was reopened at about 4pm.
“We have been scanning the area since morning. A K-9 unit was deployed but since we are unable to locate the thieves, we will look at other alternatives.
“We have asked for help from the district and contingent police to trace the men. The hunt is still on,” he said.
ACP Muhammad Azlee added that a series of roadblocks and frequent patrolling of the area would be carried out.
“The area is big, about 400ha. We believe that the suspects are still in the forest.
“If not, they might have used a route we don’t know of,” he said.
Police also believed the gang was involved in a series of house break-ins in Sri Hartamas and TTDI.
“Their modus operandi would be robbing the targeted house in the wee hours,” he said.
