FHM Singapore cover girl, first Singaporean club DJ in the world’s top 100, bail jumper, and now convicted drug offender.
DJ Tenashar’s fall from fame as a model-DJ reached its lowest ebb yesterday when she was jailed for 18 months for drug possession and consumption.
The 33-year-old, whose full name is Debbie Valerie Tenashar Long, had pleaded guilty to consuming benzoylecgonine, a major metabolite of cocaine, and psilocin, which is usually found in psychedelic mushrooms.
The single mum of a 12-year old girl also admitted to possession of psilocin.
Another charge of being in possession of a nimetazepam or Erimin-5 tablet was taken into consideration for sentencing.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nicholas Wuan told the court that Long had consumed the drugs overseas.
He urged District Judge Kessler Soh to jail Long for 22 months, citing aggravating factors such as absconding while on bail.
But her lawyer, Mr S.S. Dhillon, said in mitigation that Long is a person of good character who has done charity work, and she wants to be an anti-drug ambassador after she is released from prison.
Citing how Long’s international fame had put Singapore on the world map, he called for a sentence of not more than 16 months’ jail.
Long, who had previously claimed to be of Spanish-Chinese descent, entered the public eye when she graced the covers of the Singapore and Malaysian editions of men’s magazine FHM in 2012.
The following year, she became the first Singaporean to appear on the cover of the Thai edition of Playboy magazine and was ranked 87th in British dance music magazine DJ Mag’s annual Top 100 DJs in the world.

Long’s sentence was backdated to May 26 last year, when she was held in remand.

Former FHM cover girl DJ Tenashar is facing drug-related charges in court – here’s what we know
- DJ Tenashar is in court for consumption and possession of illegal drugs.
Former FHM Singapore and Malaysia cover girl DJ Tenashar is in court for two counts of drug consumption – one for cocaine and the other for psilocin, which is found in most psychedelic mushrooms.
The 32-year-old, whose birth name is Debbie Valerie Tenashar Long, is also being charged for importing the controlled drug psilocin and possessing nimetazepam (Erimin-5).
She is currently remanded at Changi Women’s Prison and appeared in court via video-link on Friday (June 22), according to a report in The Straits Times. She was first charged on May 26.
Court documents showed that the offences were committed on Oct 28 2015, when two containers – each containing a packet of off-white and brown substance – were found on her at Changi Airport Terminal 1, Arrival Belt 19, at 10.20pm.
She is also accused of consuming psilocin and another substance known as benzoylecgonine, a major metabolite of cocaine, on the same day.
At around 3am the next day, she is said to be in possession of an Erimin-5 tablet at a sixth-storey unit at The Quayside condominium in Robertson Quay.
If convicted, Long faces up to 10 years in jail and fine of up to $20,000 on each charge of drug consumption. For importing psilocin, she could face a sentence of 20 years in jail.
Long has been offered bail of $30,000 and will return to court on July 18.

Model-DJ Tenashar repeatedly denies she and boyfriend Thorsten Nolte are wanted by CNB. Instead, she asks: Are you sure this is not an April Fool’s Joke?
Well known local model-club DJ Tenashar and her boyfriend, Mr Thorsten Nolte, are wanted by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) for failing to report back after they were arrested for drug-related offences last October.
The New Paper received an anonymous tip-off earlier this week that the couple were on the run over drug-related offences in Singapore.
TNP then contacted CNB for confirmation by providing Tenashar’s real name – Ms Debbie Valerie Long – and that of Mr Nolte.
A spokesman replied in an e-mail on Thursday evening that a 31-year-old female Singaporean and a 42-year-old male foreigner were arrested for drug-related offences in October last year.
The spokesman added that they were later released on bail pending further investigation.

Not only is the sexy EDM (electronic dance music) artist “madly in love” with her new boyfriend, local radio jock Jamie Yeo’s ex-husband Thorsten Nolte, her career has taken a positive new turn.
Yesterday, Universal Music Singapore announced that it has signed Tenashar, who is in her 20s.
This makes her the second homegrown talent to be signed to the music label after singer-songwriter Gentle Bones.
The FHM and Playboy Thailand cover girl has also released the dance track Traffic, her first single off her upcoming debut EP.

The pair have been dating for six weeks, shortly after they were introduced by a mutual friend.
Speaking to The New Paper in a telephone interview yesterday, the happy couple were generous with their praises of each other and described each other as “perfect”.
Tenashar, who is in her 20s, said: “We clicked immediately and we are very compatible, like two peas in a pod.”
Mr Nolte, 40, who had met Tenashar at “the right time”, said that he “immediately liked her” and thought of her as an “amazing girl”.

War of words: DJ Tenashar and Leng Yein trade barbs online

Singaporean DJ and model Tenashar reportedly called out Malaysian model Leng Yein on her Facebook page, accusing the latter of sabotajing her console. The 26-year-old was one the headliners at a recent concert held at the Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach, and when things fell apart halfway during her set, she was quick to point a finger at Leng Yein.
The Facebook exchanges were less than friendly.“I do not appreciate you sabotajing my console,” Tenashar wrote on her Facebook page. “However, I’m a good person and I won’t take any revenge. May you reap what you sow”.

In October, she became the first Singpaorean to make DJ Mag’s list of Top 100 DJs.
In the same month, DJ Tenashar became the first Singaporean to be featured on the cover of Playboy Thailand.
She told The New Paper that she asked to be the October cover girl to capitalise on her DJ Mag success.
“I pushed for it because I felt that it would be good for the magazine if my cover coincided with the release of the DJ Mag list,” she said.

Few club DJs have caused as much controversy in as short a time as Tenashar.
Last month, the 26-year-old model-DJ was slammed by netizens for a video in which she got close to waves whipped up by Typhoon Usagi in Hong Kong.
On October 19, British magazine DJ Mag ranked her 87th on the Top 100 DJs in the world.
The criticism moved from recklessness to lack of DJ-ing skills.
Another female DJ voiced her disappointment in seeing the only woman on the Top 100 with a campaign video that puts her cleavage to the fore. There was even a comment suggesting that Tenashar would be better suited to the porn industry.
