Today we released an update on Deaths involving COVID-19 by vaccination status up to December 2022. Here is a thread on the release (1/10)

Although the methodology to calculate rates has not changed for this release there have been some changes including updating to census 2021 and the removal of period to date numbers. More information can be found in the release https://ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/deaths/bulletins/deathsinvolvingcovid19byvaccinationstatusengland/deathsoccurringbetween1april2021and31december2022 (2/10)

Two clarifications on the methodology. 1. ONS count someone as vaccinated from the day on which they receive a vaccination. (3/10)

2. the ASMRs are not equivalent to measures of vaccine effectiveness; they account for differences in age structure and population size, but there may be other differences between the groups (particularly underlying health) that affect mortality rates. (4/10)

We were planning on including information on spring and autumn boosters but we currently do not have access to the data. We therefore decided to publish rather than wait for the data (5/10)

Throughout the time series those unvaccinated had a higher age-standardised COVID-19 mortality rate than those who had had any vaccination and those who had had a third dose or booster at least 21 days ago. (6/10)

In the latter half of 2022, non-COVID mortality rates for vaccinated people and those who have had at least a third dose or booster have been more similar to those of unvaccinated people than earlier in the year, although they remain slightly higher for unvaccinated people (7/10)

There are many breakdowns in the release including which dose and whether it was within 21 days or not, age group and sex. These are just the high level points. (8/10)

Thank you to the team that produces this for all their hard work and for allowing me to tweet about it (10/10)

COVID vaccine tied to fewer heart attacks, strokes among previously infected

News brief

February 21, 2023

Mary Van Beusekom, MS

COVID-19 vaccination is linked to fewer heart attacks, strokes, and other cardiovascular issues among previously infected adults, suggests a US study today in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

Researchers from Mount Sinai’s Icahn School of Medicine parsed data from the country’s largest SARS-CoV-2 dataset, the National COVID Cohort Collaborative, on adults infected with SARS-CoV-2 from March 2020 to February 2022. The team tracked patients for 6 months to determine any association between COVID-19 vaccination and major cardiac events (MACE) among previously infected patients.

Participants were considered fully vaccinated if they had received at least two doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna mRNA COVID-19 vaccines or one dose of the Johnson and Johnson (J&J) version at least 14 days before infection. They were considered partially vaccinated if they received their first or second mRNA dose or one J&J dose within 14 days of infection.

Average age among the 1,934,294 participants was 45.2 years, and 81.3% were White. Among 195,136 participants, (10.1%) were fully vaccinated, 88.7% were unvaccinated, and 1.2% were partially vaccinated.

In a Mount Sinai news release, first author and MD/PhD candidate Joy Jiang said, “Given the magnitude of SARS-CoV-2 infection worldwide, we hope our findings could help improve vaccination rates, especially in individuals with coexisting conditions,” she said.

COVID-19 vaccination associated with fewer heart attacks, strokes, and other cardiovascular issues

Analyzing the most extensive datasets in the United States, researchers from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai have revealed that vaccination against COVID-19 is associated with fewer heart attacks, strokes, and other cardiovascular issues among people who were infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

The research letter, “Impact of Vaccination on Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events in Patients with COVID-19 Infection,” was published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology on February 20.
.

It is the first study to examine both full and partial vaccination and the link to major adverse cardiac events (MACE) in the United States, confirming similar analyses performed previously using the Korean COVID-19 registry. Researchers used the National COVID Cohort Collaborative (N3C) database, the largest national comprehensive database on COVID-19. Since its inception in 2020, the N3C has continuously collected and harmonized data from electronic health records of institutions nationwide. Included in this study were 1,934,294 patients, 217,843 of whom received mRNA vaccine formulations by Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna or viral vector technology by Johnson & Johnson. Cox proportional hazards, a statistical technique, was implemented to assess vaccination association with MACE.

We sought to clarify the impact of previous vaccination on cardiovascular events among people who develop COVID-19 and found that, particularly among those with comorbidities, such as previous MACE, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, liver disease, and obesity, there is an association with a lower risk of complications. While we cannot attribute causality, it is supportive evidence that vaccination may have beneficial effects on a variety of post-COVID-19 complications.”

Girish N. Nadkarni, MD, MPH, Senior Author, Irene and Dr. Arthur M. Fishberg Professor of Medicine at Icahn Mount Sinai, Director of The Charles Bronfman Institute of Personalized Medicine, and System Chief, Division of Data Driven and Digital Medicine (D3M), Department of Medicine

“To our surprise, even partial vaccination was associated with lower risk of adverse cardiovascular events,” said first study author Joy Jiang, an MD/Ph.D. candidate in the lab of Dr. Nadkarni. “Given the magnitude of SARS-CoV-2 infection worldwide, we hope our findings could help improve vaccination rates, especially in individuals with coexisting conditions.”

Conspiracy theories abound after the Turkey earthquake

Turkey quake fuels conspiracy posts on US antenna station

Updated

18 Feb 2023, 9:42 pm SGT

PARIS – Conspiracy theories about a US research station have resurged, with social media users falsely blaming it for the Turkey-Syria earthquakes, following debunked claims that it causes weather disasters and spreads the coronavirus.

Scientists have for years been refuting claims that the High-frequency Active Auroral Research Programme (Haarp), with its Alaska facility boasting 180 radio antennae, is a United States government-backed programme to weaponise the atmosphere and subjugate the population.

The series of earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria on Feb 6, killing tens of thousands of people, gave rise to a new variant of the theory on social media in various languages.

It has been dismissed by experts as science fiction.

‘Crazy’ earthquake claims

Some users cited flashes of light before the quake as evidence that they were artificially generated by Haarp.

Some claimed it was to punish Turkey for resisting the admission of new member countries to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (Nato).

“This is so crazy. It’s like asking if the earthquake was caused by Bugs Bunny digging for carrots,” said Dr David Keith, professor of applied physics at the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

“There is simply no known mechanism for anything remotely like Haarp to have any impact on earthquakes.”

Haarp sends radio waves to heat electrons in the ionosphere, the top layer of earth’s atmosphere, to study their effects on communications systems. Its waves are not big enough to reach Turkey.

Quakes are caused by movements of the earth’s crust.

Experts told Agence France-Presse that lights are commonly seen during earthquakes. Theories vary about their origin. In some cases, they come from power lines or electricity stations shaken by the quake.

Haarp was run by the US Air Force and Navy before being handed over in 2015 to the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Fake news:

UPDATED: List of the countries with leading ambassadors that left Turkey 24 hrs before the earthquakes struck.

  1. USA
  2. Canada
  3. Britain
  4. Germany
  5. Belgium
  6. Italy
  7. Holland
  8. France
  9. Denmark
  10. Australia

Coincidence? 👀
The earthquake was caused by a DEW (Direct Energy Weapon) that beamed onto the fault lines. 2 anomalies suggest that the earthquake was man-made. 1) Quakes of such magnitude are usually deep – around 30km deep. These were shallow, about 10 km. 2) There were 2 high magnitude quakes one after another – 7.8 and 7.5 on the Richter scale. Very unusual. There were hardly any other aftershocks between or after the second quake. Turkey has been trying to leave NATO, and has also been blocking Finland’s and Sweden’s entry into NATO. The quakes were a warning to Turkey to behave or else.

Humans can make n control earthquakes!!!

That’s why US so confident can win war agst Russia n China…..

The Base Rate Fallacy

..

The base rate fallacy, also called base rate neglect or base rate bias, is a type of fallacy in which people tend to ignore the base rate in favor of the individuating information. Base rate neglect is a specific form of the more general extension neglect.

A hospital with more vaccinated than unvaccinated people in it might seem worrisome at first, but that’s to be expected in a highly vaccinated population[1]
