PETALING JAYA: Only 69 deaths on Malaysian roads were attributed to accidents involving those who were driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, between 2011 and July 2021, according to a police study.
It is said to be the lowest cause of death from the thousands of fatal road accidents over the 10-year period.
According to the statistical report from the police, accidents involving single vehicles were the highest contributors to road fatalities.
The police said a total of 19,570 deaths were caused by single-vehicle accidents over the 10-year period.
By definition, single-vehicle accidents involve just one car, lorry, motorcycle, or other types of motor vehicle. However, the police study did not provide a breakdown based on the type of vehicles involved.
The study further showed that negligent driving while exiting or coming into a junction recorded the second-highest number with 6,590 deaths.
