GEORGE TOWN – A prominent developer was found dead on the ground floor of his luxury residence at Palazzo Condominium in Pulau Tikus here this morning.

The developer, sources say, is Ewein Bhd president and group managing director Datuk Ewe Swee Kheng.

Ewe is believed to be among the witnesses in the undersea tunnel trial involving former finance minister Lim Guan Eng.

Ewe was also remanded by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to facilitate investigations linked to the undersea tunnel project in January 2018.

Northeast district police chief Soffian Santong said police received an emergency call from the public at 5am, informing them of the discovery of the body at the condominium building.

Soffian said the victim’s body was sent to Penang Hospital’s Forensic Unit for a post-mortem and Covid-19 test.

He, however, declined to confirm the victim’s identity.

“When police arrived at the scene, the victim was already dead. Police are still investigating the identity of the victim and cause of the incident,” he told The Vibes.

GEORGE TOWN: A prominent property developer, believed to be linked to the Penang undersea tunnel project, has fallen to his death from his apartment in Pulau Tikus here.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong confirmed the incident on Tuesday (Oct 5) but did not reveal details.

ACP Soffian said a statement would be issued later.

The businessman was 53 years old.

Man who fell from condo key witness in Guan Eng’s corruption case

PETALING JAYA: A prominent businessman who fell to his death in Penang was a key prosecution witness in former chief minister Lim Guan Eng’s undersea tunnel corruption case, a source said.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) source said the 53-year-old man was once arrested for an investigation.

He said the man had cooperated fully with the investigation team and given sworn statements to assist with the prosecution’s case.

“We did not pressure him whatsoever. He cooperated willingly. He was one of the main prosecution witnesses over the land swap deal,” the source told FMT.

Although police did not reveal the name of the businessman, it was reported by Sin Chew that the deceased was Ewein Bhd founder and executive chairman Ewe Swee Kheng.

In 2018, Ewe was arrested by MACC for investigations into claims of corruption in the undersea tunnel project.

He was the main witness in the corruption trial, which is ongoing, but had yet to be called to the stand.
