PETALING JAYA: The Attorney-General has confirmed that all access to his office in Putrajaya has been cut off by a complete lockdown, The Sun reported today.

The AG, Mohamed Apandi Ali, had been asked about a viral photo showing barbed-wire road-blocks on the roads leading to the building that houses the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

Earlier today, newly-appointed prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had said that the AG and the former inspector-general of police, Khalid Abu Bakar, would be investigated for their roles in aborted investigations into 1MDB.

On Day 1 as PM, Dr M announces probes on AG, EC, MACC

zzzttt.jpg

KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 — Wasting no time at all on his first day back in office, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced today full investigations on the Attorney-General (AG), the Election Commission (EC), and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for suspected misconduct.

He accused AG Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali to have broken the law by hiding evidence on the alleged misappropriation of funds in sovereign investment firm 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

“We have to look into who the AG is. At the moment the AG has undermined his own credibility.
.

Dr Mahathir who was sworn in just last night said he will also evaluate the MACC’s performance for transparency.

“We will study whether the MACC is fair or not. If we find that they are biased, or in favour of any group including ourself, we would have to change them,” he said.

Also under investigation is EC chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah.

“If we find out that he is involved in corrupt practices, biased and all that, we would have to take action against him,” the prime minister said.

The Pakatan Harapan chairman promised that appointments of the heads of government institutions will go through Parliament from now on.

AG, MACC on Dr M’s radar

May 11, 2018

Mahathir says the government will also vet the MACC to see if there is bias in carrying out its duties.

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Attorney-General Mohd Apandi Ali is among top government officers who will be vetted, and action will be taken against them if there is evidence of wrongdoing.

He said the AG might have undermined his own credibility by hiding evidence of wrongdoings in the case involving 1MDB.

The government will consult with lawyers on the matter, he added.

“If he has hidden evidence, that is a wrongdoing. That is wrong in law,” he said during a press conference after a close-door meeting today with other Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders.

He was asked by reporters whether the government will reopen investigations into the 1MDB case.

Mahathir said his government will act according to the laws of the country.

On the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), he said the government will study if the agency had been bias in carrying out its duties.

“If that is the case, we will have to change them (the top officers),” he said.

Dr M: Pakatan to grill Apandi over 1MDB after GE14 win

July 18, 2017

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad says the people must vote Pakatan Harapan into power in order to uncover the truth surrounding the 1MDB scandal.
.

SHAH ALAM: Dr Mahathir Mohamad last night promised to uncover the truth behind the alleged embezzlement of funds from state-owned investment firm, 1MDB, if Pakatan Harapan becomes the next government.

Mahathir claimed there were reports linking Prime Minister Najib Razak to the alleged embezzlement, following investigations by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Bank Negara and the auditor-general.

But these reports, he alleged, were sealed under the Official Secrets Act (OSA), making it inaccessible to those without clearance.

“OSA doesn’t mean a criminal act can become an official secret. Hiding evidence of a crime is an offence. We will ask the attorney-general about this,” Mahathir said, referring to Attorney-General Mohamed Apandi Ali, who had previously cleared Najib of any wrongdoing over allegations related to 1MDB.

“If you want to know whether an offence had been committed, you have to give victory to Pakatan,” the PPBM chairman said.
