Zulpuri: Pahang MB should have chosen words over fists
Mentakab assemblyperson Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji has said that Pahang Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob should have expressed his disagreement in the form of words rather than threatening to punch him in the Pahang legislative assembly yesterday.
Nevertheless, Tengku Zulpuri said he will not be reporting Adnan to the Rights and Privileges Committee as he thought the incident was “petty” and was not too shaken by it.
“For now I will not take any action because to me it was a petty thing. I did not feel afraid (during the incident), I was relaxed about it.
“But I feel we should berhujah (argue our points) in a professional manner. If there are any disagreements with me, he (Adnan) can say it during his wrap-up speech next Tuesday, he did not have to quarrel and tunjuk–tunjuk (show off).
“We need to show the rakyat that we are bringing forward their problems, not our own,” he said when contacted about the incident today.

From floods to fists, irate Pahang MB lashes out at DAP rep
PAHANG DUN | Pahang Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob today challenged Mentakab lawmaker Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji to a fist fight after a heated exchange in the Pahang legislative assembly today.
The row erupted after Tengku Zulpuri, who is also the de facto opposition leader, had told the assembly that the state government should allocate more funds to resolve Mentakab’s flood woes.
This sparked a shouting match between Adnan and Tengku Zulpuri as they argued over when the recent floods in Penang was an act of God.
Tengku Zulpuri said likening floods with divine retribution to “beer festivals” was invalid because floods happened elsewhere as well, including Jeddah, Saudi Arabia recently.
At one point, an irate Adnan said “Tuan yang di-pertua. Keluar dewan saja (Mr Speaker. Let’s leave the chambers)”, alluding that he and Tengku Zulpuri should take matters outside.
On several occasions, Adnan could also be heard saying: “Islam ke khafir? (Are you a Muslim or an infidel?)”.
According to a report by China Press, Adnan had at one point said he was willing to create history by brawling in the legislative assembly.
Several witnesses said Adnan had asked Tengku Zulpuri to approach the government bench following the adjournment and threatened to tumbuk (punch) the opposition lawmaker.
In response, Tengku Zulpuri said he was willing to be punched and will not retaliate, according to witnesses.

Angry Pahang MB challenges DAP rep to fight
Adnan Yaakob was upset over a jibe from Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji on ‘beer festivals’ and floods in state assembly.
KUANTAN: The Pahang state assembly sitting almost degenerated into a brawl today after a heated exchange of words between Pahang Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob and Mentakab DAP assemblyman Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji.
It all started after Tengku Zulpuri, who is also the de facto opposition leader, told the assembly that the recent floods in his constituency were due to drainage problems and had nothing to do with beer festivals.
“There was no beer festival in the area before the flood,” Bernama quoted him as saying in an apparent jibe at a statement by Adnan recently that the floods in Penang were due to the beer festival held there.
Ignoring Adnan’s attempt to interrupt him, Tengku Zulpuri said it was wrong to say that floods were divine retribution for “beer festivals” as floods had also happened , including in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, recently.
This got Adnan riled up and he interjected by saying: “We are talking about religion… I am upset because he insulted the religion, insulted Allah when he said there were floods in Jeddah although there was no beer festival.”
The two continued to argue and at one point, Adnan apparently challenged Tengku Zulpuri to a fight.
According to a report by China Press, Adnan said he was willing to create history by brawling in the legislative assembly.
