Public walkway destroyed
A PEDESTRIAN walkway on Jalan Ampang near the AIA building was illegally demolished by unscrupulous contractors last week, leaving the place with a big pile of mess.
After the incident, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) lodged a report at the Dang Wangi police station and barricaded the spot.
However, the contractors came back a few days later and again started carrying out work on the spot despite being warned against it.
It is learnt that a second police report was lodged on March 7, and that DBKL enforcement officers confiscated equipment used to demolish the walkway, including a road roller and safety cones.
Witnesses who work in the vicinity said the contractors carried out the demolition last Friday, saying they were merely following orders.

A DBKL spokesman confirmed receiving complaints from the public.
“When we sent our people over to the scene, it was already too late and the entire walkway was just rubble.
“We do not know who did this and what their motives might be, but we have lodged a police report and will leave the investigation to them,’’ the spokesman said.
When asked who was responsible, he said: “We are investigating the matter.”
