Horror as witnesses describe ‘living nightmare’ of Munich rampage: Killer lured teens to their death with promise of free burgers after ‘recruiting’ victims on Facebook

The tormented teenager who massacred nine people in Munich lured his teenage victims to their deaths using a bogus Facebook message, it emerged last night.

Ali David Sonboly, a student obsessed by Norwegian mass murderer Anders Breivik, hacked into the account of an innocent Turkish girl and offered her friends free McDonald’s food if they came to the shopping mall.

But the youngsters answering the invitation ended up running for their lives, as the disturbed 18-year-old opened fire on them with a semi-automatic pistol.

Sonboly used Selina Akim’s account to offer the girl’s friends: ‘Come today at 4pm to Meggi [slang for McDonald’s] at the OEZ [shopping mall]! I will buy you what you want, but nothing too expensive.’

Munich shooting: Eight killed in shopping centre attack

Up to three shooters still at large, police say, as authorities examine whether ninth body is one of the attackers.

A massive police operation is under way in Munich as German special forces hunted for up to three armed suspects after a shooting attack on a shopping centre that killed at least eight people.

Police on Friday warned Munich residents to stay indoors as officers were deployed in the city following the initial shooting at the Olympia shopping centre. Bus, tram and metro services were also suspended.

Up to three gunmen were on the run, a police spokesman said, adding that eight people had been killed in the attack. A ninth body was also found about 1km from the scene, and police were checking to see whether it was one of the perpetrators.

First came the rattle of gunfire, then the panicked screams and the wail of sirens as armed attackers launched their killing spree in the German city of Munich.

Residents were going about their shopping at the busy Olympia mall, some eating at a McDonald’s restaurant, when the horror began.

Panicked shoppers fled to safety as armed anti-terror police roamed the streets in search of the assailants, still at large hours after their rampage began.

Eight people were confirmed dead. Police have also found a body near the shopping centre and are trying to determine whether he was one of the assailants.

As witness accounts began to emerge, Lauraetta Januze said children were deliberately targeted at the Olympia-Einkaufszentrum shopping centre.

Ms Januze was with her son was in the bathroom of McDonald’s, where its believed one attacker began his deadly assault, she told CNN.

“That’s where he loaded his weapon,’’ Ms Januze said.

“Boom, boom, boom, I heard, and then I saw all the injured. I was back to back with him, I was in the bathroom with my kid, and I only saw him shoot directly into the faces of children.”

Another witness who works at the shopping centre, Lynn Stein, also reported hearing several shots being fire and people were immediately confused and began to run outside.

“Then there were more shots. People came outside and more ran. People were running and screaming. Later I heard more shots at the parking lot.”
