#Comment When the rumour-monger is a minister himself… https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/327204
Is Tengku Adnan also just as guilty of rumour-mongering, perhaps was he trying to stifle and sabotage the country’s economy, leading to what is sometimes an overused statement – everything is “a threat to our national security”?
Should he also be investigated under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma) 2012, in the same manner that an ordinary member of the public would have been hauled up for interrogation, for saying something out of concern for public safety or the safety of his loved ones?

COMMENT The authorities are rightly concerned about rumour-mongering.
After all, when rumours build up, people become unduly worried over the possibility of a curfew or racial clash, and now, what comes closer to home is another possible terrorist attack equivalent to that in central Jakarta.
…
Rumour-mongering is irresponsible
We know the bogeyman of May 13 has been used again and again by BN politicians, but now, even irresponsible statements are made to create a public phobia of another possible IS attack.
What’s worse is that it was also in the news that several hotspots such as key shopping malls and tourist areas have been identified as possible targets for terrorist attacks. This is ‘official news’ announced by a cabinet minister and a senior member of Umno.
…
My question is, what if the source of the rumour is himself a cabinet minister? In short, how embarrassing it is that the rumour-monger is none other than Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor himself!
Justice must be seen to be done
Would Tengku Adnan also be investigated for rumour-mongering? In fact, even worse, he came out in the news as a member of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s cabinet identifying the specific hotspots and key shopping malls where an IS attack may be imminent.
This is not good for the economy. What is his motive? Did he even have the authority to say anything of this nature, especially since he is the Federal Territories minister and the Curve is not even under his jurisdiction?
Did he do justice to those shopping malls he had identified, which are located in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur? Did he hurt the sentiments of the traders in these shopping malls, whose businesses have already dropped? Should they also lodge a police report against him, for making public statements that confirmed the rumours already spreading on social media?
Would the police now charge him over the statement he made, since he has no authority to make such a statement, since he is not a member of the National Security Council? Had the unauthorised statement come from a civil servant, would he have been transferred immediately, or sacked?
..
The same treatment that we see being used against members of the opposition for their comments, for example, should also be the measure used against members of the ruling party. What is wrong if Tengku Adnan is being investigated, charged in court, and face the same consequences as others?

Is NSC Bill real reason for Ku Nan’s fear-mongering?
YOURSAY | Is NSC Bill real reason for Ku Nan’s fear-mongering? https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/327206

YOURSAY | ‘Is it a cooked-up build up for the Agong to accept the National Security Council Bill?’
‘Bukit Bintang, Bangsar among hotspots for terrorist attacks’
Anonymous_40f4: The Jakarta attack occurred just a few days ago, yet inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar and Umno have already started fear-mongering about Islamic State (IS) arrests and IS planning attacks in Bukit Bintang, Bangsar, Publika, etc.
Why is it that before the Jakarta attack, the IGP and Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor were quiet on any IS threat?
Is it a cooked-up build up for the Agong to accept the National Security Council (NSC) Bill where Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak becomes emperor? US reports say Malaysia is quite friendly with IS, so why should they attack us?
Moreover, when did Tengku Adnan become the home minister? He seems to know a lot of information – or is he just shooting in the air to help his boss divert people’s attention from the 1MDB mega scandal and the RM2.6 billion in Najib’s account, which has vanished overseas?
Visu: Some things don’t seem right with the news build-up on terrorism recently. An “IS terrorist” carrying knives and documents, being arrested as a major threat?
Is someone – or some political strategist – trying to develop fear among Malaysians so as to make the public more subservient and obedient, and that the current thieves in the government can continue manipulating and robbing the nations?
There is no real IS threat, but it is only a figment of the ruling elites. A responsible government would never allow undue fear to rise and cause business failures just by naming places – unless they have an ulterior motive.
The IS threat is being made a reality by some internal forces, and the government appears to be a party to this. Only time will tell.
Kit P: The Malaysian government – including the tens of thousands of Special Branch agents – has been primarily focused on opposition supporters and civil society critics as its principal threat.
For decades, it has been unable to differentiate between a mere political problem for BN, and a true security threat to the country.
Notice how PKR vice-president Tian Chua was the one who had gotten prosecuted for speaking up about the Lahad Datu incursion? Now the authorities are caught unprepared and ineffective against a true security threat from the IS.
…
Police deny releasing ‘hotspots’ for terrorist attacks
Asitis: Let me guess, Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor will soon deny what he had said and blame the media for twisting his words, or taking it out of context, etc.
This is the usual modus operandi of Umno leaders.
…
Cocomomo: If the minister was lying, he should be charged in court. He should not be causing fear among the people. I hope this was not done to try to boost support for BN…
