No ‘rape’ threat just sarcasm, says man of post against G25’s Noor Farida

…
Despite being in the spotlight for his alleged “rape” threat against G25 spokesperson Datuk Noor Farida Ariffin, Sharul Nizam Ab Rahim maintains he was only practising his freedom of speech when he criticised her views on Shariah law on his Facebook page.
In WhatsApp messages to questions posed by The Malaysian Insider, the animal rescuer, whose other Facebook postings reveal a penchant for crude language, also believes his post against Noor Farida was misconstrued due to “failure to grasp the Malay language”.
“I never used the word ‘rape’ in my posting.
“Those who know me will also know that I was being sarcastic and not serious.
“But the post has been taken down by Facebook due to many reports against it,” he said.
Sharul Nizam’s controversial post had been against Noor Farida’s comments made at a public forum on the need to review Shariah laws. She had cited khalwat (close proximity with the opposite sex) as an example.
Sharul Nizam had posted that he wanted to break into Noor Farida’s house, lie on her bed and “try” her.

Noor Farida blames religious leaders for Islamic State death threat

…
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 19 — G25 representative Datuk Noor Farida Ariffin has blamed religious leaders after an Islamic State (IS) supporter posted a death threat against her amid controversy surrounding her call to review khalwat laws.
“I think the religious leaders are responsible for encouraging these crazy people to take the law into their own hands by declaring us deviants and apostates without giving the reasons why they think we are wrong,” Noor Farida told Malay Mail Online today.
“Thank God Dr Asri [Zainul Abidin], the Mufti of Perlis, and Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa have come out in support of our stand on the khalwat law with convincing religious arguments,” she added, referring to the Parit Buntar MP from Amanah.

Islamic State supporter posts death threat against G25’s Noor Farida

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 19 — A man with a Facebook profile picture showing him in a shirt with the Islamic State (IS) logo has posted a death threat against G25 representative Datuk Noor Farida Ariffin on the social networking site amid controversy over her criticism of khalwat laws.
Facebook user Al Mujahid Arman also has a previous profile picture that shows a man holding an assault rifle with a flag bearing the logo of the terrorist group in the background.
“Halal darahnya untuk di bunuh,” Al Mujahid said in a December 11 comment on a poster posted in the Facebook community called “Bongkar Ajaran Sesat” (Expose Deviant Teachings).
The English translation is: “It’s permissible to shed her blood”.

The poster posted by the Bongkar Ajaran Sesat Facebook community administrator on December 10 showed a picture of Noor Farida and listed 10 teachings it attributed to the spokesman of the pro-moderation group of retired Malay senior civil servants, implying that she was “deviant” by calling her “Bonda Pin”.
Among the teachings it accused Noor Farida of perpetuating was permitting unmarried Muslim couples to be in close proximity (khalwat), permitting Muslims to drink whisky, allowing cross-dressing and protecting the rights of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.
Noor Farida told Malay Mail Online in an immediate response that she would lodge a police report on the death threat.
“The police should nab him,” she said.

Sedition probe on G25’s Noor Farida will lead to more threats, says lawyers’ group http://bit.ly/1OaRwM5

…
Investigating Datuk Noor Farida Ariffin for sedition instead of the man who threatened to rape her after she called for a review of shariah laws will only open the door to more harassment and threats against the G25 spokesperson, legal rights advocacy group Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) said today.
The group said it was “shameful” that police were investigating Noor Farida for her remarks rather than acting on the rape threat by Facebook user Shahrul Nizam Ab Rahim.
“The authorities’ decision to investigate Noor Farida for her remarks instead of Shahrul Nizam’s sexual assault threat shockingly perverts and mocks the notion (constantly mooted by the government) that the Sedition Act is ‘needed’ to protect the nation’s peace and harmony.
