Crane operator convicted of raping 12-year-old girl http://ebx.sh/23xlFjY

A crane operator was found guilty on Friday (Jan 29) of raping a 12-year-old girl, just three days after meeting her through a mobile phone messaging app.
Lee Seow Peng, 39, was also convicted of one count of sexually grooming the minor and one count of attempting to get the girl to perform an indecent act.
Lee had earlier claimed trial to all three charges.

SINGAPORE — A crane operator was today (Jan 29) found guilty of raping a 12-year-old girl just days after he met her through a mobile phone messaging application, in a case the prosecution described as one that “embodies every parent’s nightmare”.
The prosecution urged the High Court to impose a sentence of at least 11 years’ jail and six strokes of the cane on Lee Seow Peng, 39, who was also found guilty of two charges of sexual grooming and an attempt to get the minor to perform an indecent act.
During the nine-day trial, the court heard that Lee — who is unrepresented — first met the victim through the mobile phone messaging app on 26 May, 2012. She cannot be named due to a court order to protect her identity.
…
Delivering her oral judgement today, Judicial Commissioner Hoo Sheau Peng said she found Lee’s version of events “simply unbelievable”, where he claimed that he merely met the victim for a short walk and had only chatted in the car.
She also rejected his defence that he was mistaken about her age as she noted that the victim had not disguised her age and was also dressed in her school’s physical education attire when they met.
..
The case will be mentioned on Feb 23 for Lee to seek a lawyer for his mitigation plea.

Besides talking about sexual acts with her, he also messaged her about going to a “no people place” (sic) and a “lover will go place” (sic) where they could talk inside his car.

She told him she was 13 the first time they chatted, on May 27, 2012.
Just half an hour later, after a series of text messages, crane operator Lee Seow Peng, 39, asked the girl to be his girlfriend. At that time she was actually still 12, as she was a few days shy of turning 13.
…
On the seventh day of his trial yesterday, the court heard that about two hours into the chat, he started talking about giving her a “good feel” (sic).
The chat became more sexually suggestive as it progressed. He later told her: “Love you so much.”
Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Jasmine Chin-Sabado told the court that the pair chatted again the next day.
This time round, he asked the girl: “Kiss you where (sic)?”
He even suggested that they have sex in his car.
The court heard that the messages became more sexually explicit on May 29, 2012 – the day of the alleged rape.
Besides talking about sexual acts with her, he also messaged her about going to a “no people place” (sic) and a “lover will go place” (sic) where they could talk inside his car.
…
For instance, he talked about going to a hotel with her. He also talked about buying and using a sex toy on her.
When asked why he sent the girl such messages, he replied: “I was merely saying things.”
The trial resumes today.

Crane operator on trial for rape: Girl, 12, sent sexually-charged messages first
Man on trial for raping girl, 12, says: ‘If I were such a jerk, the first victim would be my daughter’

He is accused of raping a 12-year-old girl at their first meeting after having exchanged text messages over the phone.
But crane operator Lee Seow Peng, now 39, told the court yesterday that the girl was the one who had sent the suggestive and sexually-charged messages first.
Taking the stand for the first time on the sixth day of his trial, he told Judicial Commissioner Hoo Sheau Peng: “I was merely patronising her… I only chatted with her as a friend.”
…
Speaking through a Mandarin interpreter, he denied committing the offences.
He said his wife, who has a 19-year-old daughter from a previous relationship, would leave the teenager with him whenever she returned to her home country.
“If I were such a jerk, I think the first victim would be my daughter,” he said.
…
He said: “I did not rape her. I have no motives against her. My wife told me: ‘You did not do it, face (the charges) bravely’. So, I must live not only for myself, but also for my family.”
The trial continues today.

Man shocked daughter, 12, posted indecent pictures online
Man tells court how shocked he was to learn that his Sec 1 daughter posted pictures of her private parts on Facebook.
“As a father, I couldn’t protect her. I am very sad.”

First, he found out that his 12-year-old daughter had posted pictures of her private parts online.
That same day, he got a bigger shock when he heard from his estranged wife that their daughter confessed to having sex with a man named Lucifer.
The parents immediately took the girl to a police station and filed a report.
The man, Lee Seow Peng, 39, is now on trial over charges of rape, sexually grooming a minor and attempting to get the girl to perform an indecent act. He pleaded not guilty to the three charges.
Yesterday, on the second day of the trial, the prosecution called the girl’s parents to the stand.
…
The girl’s father, who was the first to testify yesterday, said that on the afternoon of June 3, 2012, his sister told him that his daughter, then in Secondary 1, posted pictures of her private parts on Facebook.
“I was shocked, upset and guilty. I love my daughter a lot. I was shocked that such a thing could happen.”
After the father got home, he took an hour to calm himself down – lest he got too emotional or impulsive – before going online to check it out.
But by then, the pictures had been removed, he said.
So he called the girl’s mother, whom he had been separated from since 2005, and told her to check the girl’s computer for the pictures.
The girl was then living with her mother, grandparents and uncle.
The father said his wife then sent him a text message, saying they had to make a police report as their daughter had sex with a man named Lucifer, Lee’s moniker on the mobile phone app.
…
The father, who choked up several times yesterday, told the court that the alleged incident affected his family a lot.
“Every time I look at her, something inside hurts me,” he said.
“I shouldn’t blame her but I feel betrayed and guilty. As a father, I couldn’t protect her. I am very sad.”

Man accused of raping 12-year-old girl he met on mobile app
Man on trial for raping 12-year-old he met through phone messaging app.

By RONALD LOH
A 39-year-old man has been accused of raping a 12-year-old girl, just three days after meeting her through a mobile phone messaging app.
After exchanging messages with her, Lee Seow Peng, who used Lucifer as a moniker on the app, picked up the girl near her school in May 2012.
He drove her to an open-air carpark at Chinese Garden where he allegedly raped her in the backseat of his car.
He was arrested after her mother discovered his messages when he allegedly tried to arrange to meet the girl again five days later.
…
Yesterday, Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Jasmine Chin-Sabado said in the prosecution’s statement that the girl first met Lee via the unnamed mobile phone messaging app on May 26, 2012.
She was then in Secondary 1.
…
Dr Manisha Mathur, from KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital’s department of obstetrics and gynaecology, who examined the girl in June 2012, is among the 15 prosecution witnesses.
Dr Mathur told the court that the girl had told her that she resisted Lee, but he was too strong and he raped her while wearing a condom.
She also said that the girl’s hymen was torn, but it was difficult to ascertain when that had happened as the examination was more than 72 hours after the alleged incident.
