A bid to set a new world record for the number of naked people riding a rollercoaster has failed, but £10,000 has been raised for charity.

The Guinness World Record was last set in 2010, when 102 people met at Adventure Island in Southend in Essex to ride the Green Scream.

The new attempt was a fundraiser for Southend Hospital Charitable Foundation’s Keyhole Cancer Appeal.

It was hoped 122 people would ride the rollercoaster, but only 57 took part.

Southend was awash with naked flesh on Sunday (October 25) as dozens of thrill-seekers stripped down in a bid to break a world record.

However, just 57 so-called thrill-seekers turned up for a fundraising ride on the Green Scream rollercoaster at Adventure Island on the seafront.

Bosses had hoped to break the existing record of 102 naked riders, which was set at the theme park five years ago.

The 2010 bid helped raise more than £20,000 for Southend Hospital’’s Bosom Pals Appeal.

This year’s effort raised £10,000 for Southend Hospital Charitable Foundation’s Keyhole Cancer Appeal.

Riders travelled from all over Essex and the UK to take part, including Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, Gloucester and Swindon and even Edinburgh.
