PARLIAMENT Opposition Leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has now agreed to lead the charge on filing a motion for a vote of no-confidence against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

The PKR president announced this after Pakatan Harapan’s inaugural presidential council meeting in Parliament today.

“We will follow standing order 26, which is to give 14-day notice,” she told reporters.

Initially, the motion was filed by PKR lawmaker Hee Loy Sian but DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng wanted it revoked.

Given that it concerns an issue of paramount importance, Lim wanted Wan Azizah to file the motion instead, indicating that DAP lawmakers might not support it otherwise.

Meanwhile, Wan Azizah said Hee would retract his motion.

DAP: Wan Azizah should submit no-confidence motion, not others

Published Today 9:42 pm

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has urged PKR’s Petaling Jaya Selatan MP Hee Loy Sian to withdraw his submission for the tabling of no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

The Penang chief minister insisted that the notice should be submitted by the opposition leader, PKR president Wan Azizah, not others.

According to Sin Chew Daily evening edition, Lim pointed out that since the motion carries great weight, it should be submitted by Wan Azizah from her position as the opposition leader.

“Although Hee Loy Sian has submitted the notice, we hope that he can withdraw it,” said Lim, who is Bagan MP.

The no-confidence motion is presently on the Parliament order paper for Monday.

He will also ask PKR MP Hee Loy Sian to withdraw the no-confidence motion so that Wan Azizah can submit it.

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) – A Malaysian opposition lawmaker has submitted notice for a motion of no confidence against embattled Prime Minister Najib Razak for Parliament on Monday (Oct 19), when he will face the toughest test of his political career over a graft scandal.

Mr Hee Loy Sian, a lawmaker in opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim’s Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), submitted the motion, citing Datuk Seri Najib’s alleged failure to adequately explain a report in July that said investigators were looking into troubled state fund 1MDB and had found close to US$700 million (S$967 million) deposited in his personal bank account. Reuters has not been able to verify the report.

“Najib has affected the country’s image in the world and caused investors to lose confidence in the government to the extent that the economy turns unstable, with the stock market diving badly and the ringgit (local currency) depreciating against the US dollar,” Mr Hee’s motion reads.
