Tigerair flight TR2638 (A320 9V-TRH), which departed from SIN for MAA at 2054h on 16OCT15, returned to Singapore after passengers observed that a cowling had fallen off the left engine.
The flight attempted an approach to runway 02C but the approach was aborted due to an unsafe gear indication. After two hours of holding at point HOSBA, the pilots came in for an overshoot approach on runway 02C. Engineers were on standby beside the runway to observe the state of the landing gear.
The engineers reported the landing gears observed to be down, and the flight landed safely on 02C at 2319h.

SINGAPORE — Tigerair flight TR2638 to Chennai was forced to return to Changi Airport yesterday (Oct 16) after the crew was advised that the cowling of the aircraft’s left engine had fallen off.
In an email statement to Channel NewsAsia today, an airline spokesperson said a mayday call was made “as a precaution and in order for the pilot to secure priority for landing and the necessary ground assistance”.
“The pilot then commenced a turn back, bringing all passengers and crew safely back to Singapore,” the spokesperson said, adding that the flight, which departed Singapore at 8.46pm yesterday, returned to Changi Airport on the same day at 11.20pm.
