KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 — A growing number of the faithful have reportedly been visiting the St Thomas More Catholic Church in Subang Jaya, Selangor over the past week to catch sight of a “miracle”, after a video clip recounting the event spread online.
According to The Star, a polyresin statue of the Virgin Mary that had been placed in a grotto on the church grounds had recently changed into porcelain and grown taller by 7.5cm during a blessing ceremony by the parish priest Rev Father Raymond Pereira last Wednesday.
A church member who was present during the ceremony was reported recounting the incident to the congregation during Mass last Sunday, the daily reported based on a three-minute video clip that has been circulating through the Whatsapp smartphone application.
The unnamed parishioner claimed the statue smiled a little and shed tears.
He also claimed the parish priest to have allegedly spoken to the Virgin Mary and imparted a message saying she will visit more often and urged all to pray to her.
Catholics revere Mary as the mother of Jesus Christ.
The Star said it was unable to contact the parish priest for comment.

Miracle of Virgin Mary ‘smiling’
Posted on 14 October 2015 – 10:39pm
PETALING JAYA: Hundreds of believers attended mass and prayer sessions at the St Thomas More Church in Subang Jaya today to witness the “miracle” statue of the Virgin Mary that grew taller, smiled and shed tears.
In a video shared in social media, a parishioner addressed the congregation claiming to have witnessed the “miracle” and began singing hymns.
The statue of Virgin Mary, purchased from Vietnam earlier this month, had reportedly grown 7.2cm taller when it was blessed on Oct 7.
…
However, the incident cannot be officially declared as a miracle pending the approval from the Vatican after going through a tedious process of reviewing and investigations.
Similarly, the Vatican is yet to provide a ruling on the claimed apparition of Virgin Mary on a window glass pane at the Sime Darby Medical Centre, Subang Jaya, in November 2013, which also inspired hundreds of people, including those from other faiths to see the glass pane.

Virgin Mary ‘miracle’ draws Catholics to Subang Jaya church
PETALING JAYA: Catholics are gathering at a church in Subang Jaya to witness claims that a statue of Virgin Mary is growing taller, smiling, and at times, shedding tears.
Parishioners turned up at the Church of St Thomas More were awed by the phenomenon that has become the talk of the community.
According to a WhatsApp message that has been circulating, the church had a grotto built with the statue of the Virgin Mary who is the mother of Jesus Christ.
However, for some of the parishioners, the statue was too small for the grotto. It was then placed into a box.
When it was due to be blessed last Wednesday, they said a parish priest noticed an unusual occurrence – the statue made of polyresin had turned to porcelain and grew taller by three inches (7.2cm).
In a three-minute video clip believed to be taken during Sunday Mass at the church, a parishioner was seen addressing the congregation where he claimed to have witnessed the “miracle”.
