Slap me if you dare, DAP MP challenges Tajuddin
Slap me if you dare, DAP MP @limlipeng challenges @tajuddinrahman https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/315431

DAP Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng challenged deputy minister Tajuddin Abdul Rahman to slap him on the first day when Parliament resumes next week.
Lim issued the challenge to the deputy agriculture and agro-based industries minister in a statement today.
Tajuddin refused to apologise for saying that ethnic Chinese Malaysians who complain to foreign quarters about domestic affairs deserve to be slapped.
After his remarks backfired, Tajuddin’s explanations ranged from outright denial to claiming that he was misquoted, to saying that it was targetted at DAP Chinese, to it was “just a reminder” and even declaring that it was just “a joke”.
Lim (photo) said if Tajuddin is an anak jantan (courageous), he should repeat the threat to slap the Chinese in the Dewan Rakyat.

Go ahead and slap the Chinese if you have the guts, Dr M tells Umno deputy minister
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 3 — Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today scoffed at an Umno leader who is getting flak after saying the ethnic Chinese should be “slapped”, and challenged Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman to carry out the act.
The former prime minister was visibly amused when asked for his view on the “lempang” remark by the Pasir Salak MP
Lempang is a Malay term to describe the act of slapping.
“Lempang? Ask him to lempanglah. It’s easy to say. When we have the government backing us we are brave, but outside we are not brave,” he said dismissively at a news conference.

Former information minister Zainuddin Maidin has advised deputy minister Tajuddin Abdul Rahman not to apologise to the Chinese community as doing so will not earn their support for the BN.
Zainuddin said this in reference to demands that Tajuddin apologises for saying that Chinese Malaysians could be slapped (lempang) if they sought foreign help for their grouses.
…
“No need for deputy minister Tajuddin to apologise to the Chinese (Malaysians).
“There is no benefit. They will not support Umno and BN again,” Zainuddin, who is widely referred to as Zam and was also a former editor-in-chief of Utusan Malaysia, said in a Twitter posting.

Caught on audio, Umno deputy minister now says ‘slap’ Chinese remark a joke
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 — Umno’s Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman sought to play off his “slap” remark aimed at ethnic Chinese as just a joke, after an audio recording was uploaded onto the Internet, Sin Chew Daily reported this evening.
The deputy agriculture and agro-based industry minister insisted he had not done anything wrong as the comment was made after his news conference yesterday; and even challenged news portal Malaysiakini — which had uploaded the audio clip — to produce a video recording of him saying it instead.
“Do they have the video? Was I still sitting or standing at that time? Or I was about to leave after saying that?
“It was only a joke and not part of the press conference,” he was quoted as saying by the Chinese-language daily in a report posted on its website in English.

He claims to have been mistranslated
Yesterday, Tajuddin was recorded by news portal Malaysiakini as issuing a warning to Chinese Malaysians that they were asking to be slapped for complaining about issues in the country to a third-party, ostensibly in response to the aftermath of last month’s “red shirt” rally that prompted China’s ambassador to Malaysia to comment that Beijing would not hesitate to speak out against any threat that may affect the country’s ties with Malaysia.
“I want to warn the Chinese Malaysians, don’t think when you have a problem, you want to complain — just a little bit also complain — that there will be people to protect them.
“Nak kena lempang macam itu,” the deputy minister was quoted as saying.
…
However, Tajuddin has since accused Malaysiakini of misquoting him in its article, which had translated the Bahasa Malaysia portion of his remarks to mean that he was threatening to slap the Chinese.

Go ahead and slap a Chinese, DAP man dares Umno deputy minister
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 — Umno’s Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman should carry out his promised threat to slap an ethnic Chinese if he is willing to face the consequences, Taman Tun Dr Ismail DAP member Zulhazmi Shariff said today.
In the wake of the interracial storm, Zulhazmi told the deputy agriculture and agro-based industry minister to be mindful of his influential position as the people will hold him to his promises.
“My personal stand, I ask that he slap first. Don’t just talk, slap first, then we’ll see what happens,” the DAP man challenged Tajuddin in a news conference here.
Zulhazmi called on Tajuddin to rein in his personal sentiments if he wanted to be seen as a “leader and as an administrator”.
Also at the same news conference was Pahang DAP chairman Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji, who called on the Perak mufti to advise the Pasir Salak MP on the dos-and-don’ts as a Muslim leader.

Apologise for asking me to apologise, Tajuddin tells Chong

Umno supreme council member Tajuddin Abdul Rahman has denied threatening to slap Chinese Malaysians despite an audio recording proving otherwise.
Therefore, the deputy minister said MCA Youth chief Chong Sin Woon should apologise to him for demanding that he apologise.
…
As for Chong, Tajuddin said the MCA Youth chief should meet him instead of airing his views through the media.
“Was he there at the press conference? He only picked up what was reported by Malaysiakini which was not reported entirely correct,” he said.
“Don’t talk so much, come to see me. I am not worried. I have done nothing wrong,” added the Pasir Salak

MCA rains brickbats, wants Umno to act against Tajuddin https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/314300

MCA has continued to rain condemnation on Tajuddin for stating that he will ‘slap’ Chinese Malaysians for complaining to outsiders.
The latest imbroglio comes amid strained ties between the two BN partners after Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak supported the Sept16 red-shirts rally.
This prompted Pasir Gudang MCA Youth to severe ties with Najib and incur the wrath of Umno leaders.
Taking Tajuddin to task, Gelang Patah MCA division urged Umno to act against its supreme council member to prevent the exacerbation of racial tension.
…
Division chairperson Jason Teoh castigated the deputy agriculture and agro-based industries minister for insulting Chinese Malaysians with his “low class” mentality.
…
Meanwhile, MCA secretary-general Ong Ka Chuan said the party would raise the matter through the BN channel to call for action against leaders who threaten national unity.
He also said MCA is “very angry” over Tajuddin’s statement.
The MCA leader pointed out it is slanderous to question the loyalty of Chinese Malaysians.

Tajuddin ‘slap’ remark earns ‘flying kick’ response
Gerakan Youth deputy chief Andy Yong wonders whether deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister, Tajuddin Abdul Rahman has an inferiority complex following his remark of ‘wanting to slap the Chinese’.
Yong said Tajuddin should maybe slap himself first.
“What makes him think Chinese ambassador Huang Huikang’s visit (to Petaling Street) is about seeking a godfather assistance? Why must he or those like him always want to play the racial game?” he asked.
“With such a mentality from people like Tajuddin, the country can never produce a just and fair society. Our nation will not move forward progressively.
“On behalf of Malaysians, I can also warn him by giving a flying kick which is harder and longer than his hand,” said Yong.
Yong added it was people like Tajuddin that would cause BN to lose votes.

This, he said, is especially from amongst the urban electorate or those who are fence-sitters.
“I hope Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak will take stern action against him by suspending or terminating his services as deputy minister,” he said.

MCA stung by Tajuddin’s ‘slap’ remark, demands apology
Deputy Minister Tajuddin Abdul Rahman’s warning he will “slap” any Chinese who complains to foreigners is “shocking” and warrants an apology, said MCA senator Koh Chin Han.
He said Tajuddin is merely stoking racial unrest, amid the row over the remarks of China envoy to Malaysia Huang Huikang.
“Tajuddin must immediately retract his statement and apologise to the Chinese community. If he ever dares to slap any Chinese, MCA will not sit still.
“The Malaysian Chinese are proud of Malaysia. Anybody slandering another race is ignorant,” Koh said in a statement.

Minister issues ‘slap’ warning to fussy Chinese http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/314166

Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Tajuddin Abdul Rahman has warned that he will “slap” the Chinese in Malaysia if they take their complaints outside of the country.
“I want to warn the Chinese Malaysians, don’t think when you have a problem, you want to complain, just a little bit also complain so that there will be people to protect them.
“Nak kena lempang macam itu (get a slap for that),” he told a press conference after officiating an exhibition in Kuala Lumpur today.
The Umno supreme council member called on the Chinese to stop “fantasising” that external powers would defend them.
“Chinese people in Malaysia, don’t fantasise that there will be a big boss coming, that there will be a Godfather coming from China to help them.
“Don’t fantasise like that,” he stressed.
The Pasir Salak MP said Chinese ambassador to Malaysia Huang Huikang’s visit to Petaling Street last week was just to protect tourists from China who visit Malaysia.
“When he said ‘protecting his people’, he doesn’t mean Chinese Malaysians. Why should he interfere? I would also get angry if he interfered.
“The Chinese ambassador said his statements were misconstrued, he had no intentions of interfering with our domestic affairs, no intentions of defending the Chinese here,” he added.

Jamal: Huang offered help to griping Chinese
Red Shirts leader says the envoy was actually telling the Chinese they had China to return to if they’re unhappy.
PETALING JAYA: Red Shirts leader Jamal Yunos has interpreted the Chinese Ambassador’s controversial remarks last week as an assurance to local Chinese that his government would allow their migration to China if they were dissatisfied with life in Malaysia.
…
Jamal released a press statement yesterday, in which he said Huang was in fact defending the Chinese traders in the district, the targets of the planned rally.
“This is a clear message that the Chinese have a place to take their complaints to,” he said.
“They have their homeland in China, and if anything happens to them, they will have somewhere to go to.”
He said it was different for the Malays because Malaysia was all they had.
His statement included a message to the Malays: “Realise that Malaysia is ours. We need to take care of it and defend every inch of this land. Get up and unite in the name of the Malays and Islam.
“This is all that our ancestors have left for us. It is priceless. So we have to take care of it the best way we can.”

China defends envoy to M’sia after comments on racism
China defends envoy to M’sia after comments on racism – ‘We hope that Malaysia can maintain ethnic harmony,’ says … http://ow.ly/34JZeP
China today defended the actions of its ambassador to Malaysia after he was summoned to clarify his remarks criticising extremism and racism ahead of a planned pro-Malay rally in the capital, Kuala Lumpur.
Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry said it would meet Chinese Ambassador Huang Huikang so that he could clarify comments that “attracted attention and caused concern to the Malaysian public”.
The Star newspaper quoted Huang as saying on Friday that China opposes “any form of discrimination against races and any form of extremism”. He was speaking ahead of a planned rally by a Malay-dominated, pro-government group that was reported to be demanding more Malay participation in the popular Petaling Street market, known as Chinatown.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hong Lei said Huang was visiting the Chinese community during the Mid-Autumn Festival, a traditional Chinese holiday that fell on Sunday, adding that it was a “normal” activity.
He said China did “not interfere in other countries’ domestic politics nor intervene in other countries’ internal affairs”.
“China and Malaysia are friendly neighbours, we hope that Malaysia can maintain national unity and stability and ethnic harmony,” Hong said at a daily news briefing.
Huang had made the comments on a visit to Petaling Street.

Chinese ambassador visits Petaling Street on eve of rally

Chinese ambassador Huang Hui Kang paid a visit to Petaling Street today on the eve of an anti-Chinese rally by Malay rightwing groups.
The rally is called in response to the authorities’ purported lack of action against traders who sell counterfeit goods there.
China is against all forms of terrorism, as well as racism and extremism which target specific ethnic groups, the ambassador to Malaysia said in a statement which he read out after his walkabout in the area known as Chinatown.
Huang said Malaysia was a country ruled by law, and therefore, everyone – regardless of ideology or stratum in society – must safeguard it.
“Nobody has the right to undermine the authority of the law or trample on the rule of law.
“The Chinese government has always pursued peaceful co-existence in international relationship and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.
“But with regard to the infringement on China’s national interests, violations of legal rights and interests of Chinese citizens and businesses which may damage the friendly relationship between China and the host country, we will not sit by idly,” said Huang in his strongly-worded statement.
The diplomat visited the popular shopping area for about one hour along with the Kuala Lumpur Hawkers and Petty Traders Association.
