PAS: ‘Small party’ Amanah deserves only small number of seats
GOMBAK: Amanah deserves to get only 27 parliamentary seats to contest under Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) seat allocation for Peninsular Malaysia.
This is because it is not as strong as the other parties in the coalition, PAS Research Centre director Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki said today.
He said the party, formed as a PAS splinter in September 2015, wielded influence in fewer areas compared with the other component parties.
“To me, it is warranted that it got only 27 seats, being the small party that it is.”
He spoke to reporters after a lecture by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang at the Kolej Universiti Islam Zulkifli Muhammad in Taman Melewar here today.
Zuhdi said although Amanah had several well-known political personalities, they were not supported by strong party machinery.
“They were strong only while they were in PAS and PAS was the one which bolstered them.”
He claimed that Amanah president Mohamad Sabu (popularly known as Mat Sabu) and deputy president Salahuddin Ayub lost their lustre when they quit PAS.
PH had announced the seat allocation agreement for Peninsular Malaysia during its convention on Jan 7, with PPBM assigned 52 seats, PKR 51, DAP 35 and Amanah 27.
PH chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad had also paid special tribute to Mat Sabu for his party’s “generosity”, saying it was Amanah that had made the seat allocation negotiations a success.

The Malay daily quoted Nik Omar as saying that he was not involved with the PAS splinter party and denied being appointed as Kelantan Amanah shariah panel chairman.
“I am not involved. I take in the respective (party) views, I accept and respect each other’s existence,” he told the daily.

A son of former PAS musyidul am the late Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat has been announced as the chairperson of PAS-splinter, Parti Amanah Negara’s Kelantan syariah panel.
This was announced by Kelantan Amanah communications director Nordin Hussin at a dinner in Petaling Jaya tonight.
This was announced by Kelantan Amanah communications director Nordin Hussin at a dinner in Petaling Jaya tonight.
Nik Omar Nik Aziz was introduced along with the rest of the nascent leadership line-up of Kelantan Amanah.
However, he was absent from the gathering.
When met to confirm the matter later however, Nordin denied his earlier announcement.
“There is no such thing as Nik Aziz’s son joining Amanah. You must have misheard,” he contended.
However, the confusion with regards to the announcement was resolved when Malaysiakini contacted a senior leader in Kelantan Amanah.
The source confirmed that the former Kelantan MB’s son had indeed joined Amanah, though for the moment he is keeping a low profile and will refrain from attending any public events.
This, the party insider said, was to honour his family’s request.

Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) has received more than 50,000 membership applications, said its secretary-general Mohd Anuar Tahir.
According to him, the 44-day-old PAS splinter party had received 12,000 applications from Kelantan, which is under PAS rule.
Mohd Anuar also said that non-Muslims were among those who applied to be members.
“We never expected to get 12,000 applications from Kelantan,” he told Malaysiakini when met at Wisma Amanah in Kuala Lumpur today.
Mohd Anuar is also confident that Amanah’s membership would hit the 100,000 mark by next year.

The IDCC Convention Centre in Shah Alam today witnessed a sea of orange in the form of Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) members.
Thousands of Amanah members and supporters alike filled one of the convention centre’s large halls, sang the ‘Negaraku’, the ‘Jalur Gemilang’ as well as the party’s songs, at the grand launch of the new political party.
The party’s logo- with its three orange strips, the word ‘Amanah’ on a black and a white background- was then unveiled to loud cheers from the audience.
The party’s president, former PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu in his speech today, was proud of how the party does not shun any races.
“All races are here. I think the red shirt rally today is monopolised by only one race,” said Mohamad, who could not help himself from taking a dig at the rally currently happening in the city centre.
At 11.35am today, Mohamad finally launched the new party, and soon after introduced the party’s top leadership.

Mat Sabu: Majority of Amanah’s members from Kelantan
Despite being new in the political scene for two weeks, Parti Amanah Negara is making inroads with its membership drive, with the majority of the registered members coming from Kelantan.
Amanah’s pro-tem chairperson Mohamad Sabu said he was surprised that of all the states, Kelantan is leading the membership drive with the PAS-led state registering more than 7,000 new members.
“This is followed with Johor with more than 5,000, Selangor more than 4,000, and Kedah with 3,000.
“In total 50,000 forms had been distributed and 30,000 had been processed and approved as of Sunday. This is despite the party is only about two weeks old,” he told Malaysiakini in an exclusive interview.
He added more details would be revealed by the party secretary.

Amanah’s launch goes ahead as RoS gives all clear
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 14 — PAS offshoot Parti Amanah Negara said it will go ahead with its launch this Wednesday after a meeting with the Registrar of Societies (RoS) today went without a hitch.
Amanah’s secretary-general Anuar Tahir said he and the party’s president Mohamad Sabu were received cordially by a senior official who represented RoS’ director-general Datuk Mohammad Razin Abdullah.
“Our meeting today happened in a very good environment where we were given explanations and valuable advice by RoS in continuing the registration process,” Anuar said in a statement.
“We are very happy with the discussion and positive feedback from RoS today.”
Anuar told portal The Malaysian Insider earlier today that the party did not need to provide a new name as the RoS had accepted all the documents to register its name, logo and flag.
Despite that, Anuar did not say when the registration process would be completed.

Seven rebel MPs ditch PAS for breakaway GHB
The picture is expected to become clearer when GHB reveals its new political party in Kuala Lumpur reportedly at 3pm today.
KUALA LUMPUR: Seven PAS Members of Parliament, not aligned to the ulama who have taken total control of the party, will be with the breakaway Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB) when it forms a new political party based on ideals on the true interpretation of Islam.
The picture is expected to become clearer when GHB reveals its new political party in Kuala Lumpur reportedly at 3pm today.
GHB Secretary Dzulkefly Ahmad has been quoted by sources as confiding in them that the seven MPs would remain in Parliament under a new political party as PAS can only sack them as party members. Dzulkefly declined to name the MPs concerned.
However, it has been learnt from the MPs concerned that the list includes Kota Raja MP Siti Mariah Mahmud, Sepang MP Mohamed Hanipa Maidin, Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad, Parit Buntar MP Mujahid Rawa, Kuala Terengganu MP Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah Raja Ahmad, Kuala Krai MP Mohd Hatta Ramli and Tumpat MP Kamaruddin Jaffar.
The defection of the seven rebel MPs from PAS, the result of the progressives and professionals in the party being totally rejected, except for one, by the delegates during the recent elections, has reportedly left them with no choice but to revive their political fortunes elsewhere. “The departure of the seven will weaken PAS by a third of its MPs in Parliament,” pointed out a source. “PAS has been reduced to being a one issue, hudud, party after the recent elections….

S’gor PAS haemorrhage continues, Shah Alam hit
Now Shah Alam PAS leaders quit posts http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/309236

The wave of resignations of Selangor PAS grassroots leaders have continued with the Shah Alam division leaders announcing the quitting of their posts last night.
Shah Alam division chief Azli Yusof, his deputy Zulkifli Mohd Nani and vice-chief Mohamad Jamil Abd Rahim said they officially announced their resignations during the division’s meeting yesterday.
The move includes 18 more Shah Alam PAS working committee members, said the trio in a statement.
“The resignations are not meant to weaken the PAS machinery in Shah Alam but because we want to join efforts to champion Islam through a platform that we have better confidence in,” said the trio.
Wishing the new leadership all the best, they said, “Hopefully all will stay true to the Islamic struggle.”

Zaid confirms political return, likely under GHB banner
Last updated on 19 August 2015 – 09:22pm
PETALING JAYA: Former Umno lawmaker Datuk Zaid Ibrahim has all but confirmed that he will be making a comeback to the political scene after years of absence, with Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB) his most likely destination.
“Definitely,” he told theSun yesterday when asked to confirm whether he was planning to make a return to politics.
Zaid said he was open to joining any opposition party who would have him, but seemed to hint his desire for a move to the newly minted political movement GHB, which is expected to be registered as a formal political party in the coming weeks.
“(I will join) one of the opposition parties who are open to having me. Probably GHB if they give me a seat.
“They (GHB) are my friends. However, they are not yet a party, so we’ll wait another week to see if I will join them,” he said.

‘Panicky’ PAS moves to stop members joining Amanah
KOTA BARU: Kelantan PAS is short of pressing the panic button now with Amanah, the party name of Gerakan Haparan Baru (GHB) and a group of Muslim non-governmental organisation, gaining momentum in luring members into its fold.
State PAS deputy commissioner Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah said despite the common perception that Amanah will not make inroads in the state, PAS is not taking chances and will counter any move by its members to join Amanah.
“We are compiling the names of all suspected PAS members who are leaning towards the party through their actions and public statements.
“We will have a meeting of the PAS central committee on Sept 11 to discuss the actions to take against them.
“Although Amanah will struggle to make inroads in Kelantan, we will not leave to it chance. We believe Amanah is poison to PAS,” he said after attending the state executive councillor meeting at Kota Darul Naim here on Wednesday.

On Monday, DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang said in a statement that the soon-to-be-formed opposition coalition to replace PR will name Anwar as its PM-designate.
The pact that some have dubbed “Pakatan 2.0” and “Harapan Rakyat” is expected to comprise PKR, DAP and HB, which is expected to register next month as a political entity; other potential components have not been ruled out either.

Anwar is our PM-to-be, Harapan Baru says after DAP endorsement
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 16 — Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be Malaysia’s next prime minister if the opposition claims Putrajaya the next federal polls, members of PAS splinter group Harapan Baru (HB) said, joining ally DAP in endorsing the jailed PKR leader for the post.
The leaders admitted that the matter has not been formally deliberated but said there has never been any doubt among them that Anwar is the only leader capable of uniting the opposition.
“HB has no problem with the suggestion, we feel he is a deserving candidate who can inject new hope, politically,” Parit Buntar MP Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa told Malay Mail Online over phone when contacted for comment on the nomination of Anwar as the PM-designate.
He cited Anwar’s track record, pointing out that the leader had successfully led Pakatan Rakyat (PR) for many years before he was sent to prison earlier this year for sodomy.
Mujahid acknowledged the demise of PR, however, but said that the opposition front was merely suffering a “minor hiccup”.

Our membership open to non-Muslims, says GHB
The PAS splinter group New Hope Movement (GHB) that is set to be launched as a political party before Merdeka Day on August 31 will accept non-Muslims members, said the group’s deputy chairman Salahuddin Ayub.
Salahuddin said most members of GHB that was set up by the progressive faction from the Islamist party will join the new party.
“It will be open to non-Muslims although our policies will be based on Islam.
“As to the name, we will wait till the next press conference.
“We have to wait in case some feel that GHB should remain an NGO, but what is certain is that some of us will join the new party,” Salahuddin told a press conference in Shah Alam today.

Selangor GHB expects mass exodus of PAS members to splinter group
SHAH ALAM: PAS is going to have a “big hole” in its membership when the party’s splinter group Gerakan Harapan Baru (GBH)’s Selangor chapter is launched at the end of the month.
Selangor GHB coordinator Ir Izham Hashim said the launch would ignite a massive exodus of members from PAS into the new movement in the state.
“You’ll be surprised that on the day of the launch, you will see the number of PAS branches and divisions that will be ‘finished off’,’’ Izham told reporters at a press conference after announcing the opening of Selangor GHB, Friday.
Hulu Klang assemblyman Saari Sungib and Morib assemblymen Hasnul Baharuddin also attended the press conference held at a hotel here.
Both men had been suspended from PAS for a year following the Selangor mentri besar crisis last year.
Izham, who is the Kelana Jaya PAS division chief, said the entire Selangor PAS branches would be moving en block into GHB.
He said GHB divisions in all of Selangor’s 22 parliamentary constituencies have been set-up.
“The divisions in all other states have also been formed with Johor having the highest number of PAS members moving to GHB followed by Negri Sembilan, Malacca and then Selangor,’’ said Izham.
Izham added there were several Selangor PAS assemblymen who had “secretly” expressed their interest in joining GHB.

Harapan Baru party to be formed on Sept 14 http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/305626

…
The new party, Gerakan Harapan Baru (Harapan Baru) rumoured to replace PAS in the opposition pact will be formed on Sept 14, said Khalid Samad, a committee member of the new party.
The former senior leader of PAS said the date was chosen for the new party to give PAS time to keep its word to correct its mistakes within 100 days after it decided to sever ties with DAP in the opposition pact.
“This is the last day of the 100 days, which is Sept 14. Two days later, Sept 16, is the most suitable day to hold the first convention or annual general meeting.
“But it all depends, these are only plans and in the end we will see what the political developments are and what is most important is the response from the people,” he told reporters after an Aidilfitri celebratory event by Gerakan Harapan Baru in Kota Baru last night.
