Anwar: PAS been together with Umno for some time already
SHAH ALAM, May 21 — Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim accused PAS of being in cahoots with Umno long before severing ties with PKR.
The jailed de facto leader said the decision to sever ties with PKR has been a long time coming, with PAS not opposing the last Budget or participating in Bersih 5.
“They did not oppose the GST budget, the rise in fuel and sugar prices and did not participate in the Bersih 5 rally,” he said in his address which was read out at the PKR congress today by his daughter, Nurul Izzah Anwar.
Reiterating that PAS’ decision “has disappointed many”, Anwar added that the Opposition should accept it and move on.
He reminded the Pakatan Harapan pact to stay united with allies like Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), which has joined the front.
The former deputy prime minister also told the Opposition to get their political machinery in order and make sure their grassroots support is strong ahead of the general elections.
Anwar predicted that, if all goes according to plan, the Opposition would be able to overthrow the Barisan Nasional government.
“With the scandals and betrayals in the BN government… this will be the best opportunity in history to bring down the BN-Umno government,” he stressed.

PAS muktamar resolves to cut ties with PKR
MUKTAMAR | The 63rd PAS muktamar, the party’s highest decision making body, has resolved to cut ties with PKR after 18 years of cooperation.
The motion was adopted by the muktamar after overwhelming majority voted in agreement.
However, the matter was still subject to the agreement of the party’s syura council, which does not have executive powers in itself, but is highly influential and is able to advise the party’s central committee.
The motion was tabled by ulama wing delegate Zulkifli Ismail.
“I, representing the PAS ulama wing, all the other wings and divisions, present this motion. In the past, PAS has had tahaluf siyasi (cooperation) with many parties.
“For this muktamar, we propose that tahaluf siyasi between PAS and PKR be terminated, contingent on (a decision by) the syura council.
“We leave this decision to the syura council,” he said.

Split over Selena Gomez concert trivial, PH tells PAS
PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan parties have hit out at PAS’ youth wing for wanting to cut ties with PKR over a concert by Selena Gomez saying it was trivial and just an excuse to justify their newfound love with Umno.
Amanah vice-president Mujahid Yusof Rawa said one would have thought it would be over policy disagreements or a difference in party aspirations.
“It is a very trivial issue. I would have thought it is about policy or something (PAS) aspires,” he said referring to the concert by the US pop singer in Shah Alam last July.
PAS had claimed the singer was too sexy. They had also said PKR in Selangor was not committed enough to strengthen Islam.
The motion was passed unanimously during the PAS youth wing’s muktamar in Kedah on Saturday.
Yesterday, the PAS central muktamar also passed a motion to terminate the Islamist party’s political cooperation with PKR.

Tuan Ibrahim: U-turn on Act355 shows Umno can’t be trusted
MUKTAMAR | The government’s contradictory stand on whether it would table amendments to syariah penal laws showed that Umno can’t be relied on to uphold Islam, said PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
“(Concerning amendments to) Act 355, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the government would table it, but Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said no.
“How can you rely on them? You can’t,” Tuan Ibrahim said at a ceramah in Alor Setar, Kedah last night.

We may take back all seats from PKR, says PAS’ Zuhdi
The row between Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali and PAS deepened today with the latter’s leader saying they may take back all the seats they had purportedly “lent” PKR in the last elections.
According to Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia today, PAS research centre director Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki was reported saying this, should the Islamist party’s upcoming muktamar decide to cut ties with PKR.
“We will not rule out the possibility of taking back all the seats in Selangor, including PKR seats.
“At this moment we still have ties with PR, and we need to wait until the muktamar to make the decision,” Zuhdi was quoted as saying.
“If we cut ties (with PKR), not only in Selangor, but we will take back all the seats nationwide, Utusan reported him telling reporters at Kampung Cherang last night.
While PAS has cut ties with former Pakatan Rakyat partner DAP, it has maintained relations with PKR particularly in the PKR-led Selangor government, which comprises excos from all three parties.

K. Selangor Pas Youth cuts ties with PKR
SHAH ALAM: In an annual general meeting today, the Kuala Selangor Pas Youth division approved a motion to cut its ‘tahaluf siyasi’ (political ties) with PKR during the upcoming general election.
Its chief, Ahmad Hakimi Othman, said the motion was approved based on three factors.
“(Firstly), Muslim PKR leaders have been cynical towards efforts to strengthen the Shariah courts and have turned a deaf ear to the information and explanations that are given (in support of the move).
“(Secondly), their involvement in the Sungai Besar by-election was seen as an obvious betrayal of Pas as stipulated by the Syura Ulama Council.
“(Thirdly), the inability of the state government to resolve issues surrounding Air Selangor and Splash could drag Pas into a crisis of no confidence by the people.
“Based on these three issues, the tahaluf siyasi during the general election with PKR must end,” he said in a statement.

We put you in MB’s chair, S’gor PAS grassroots warn Azmin
A PAS grassroots leader has reminded Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali that the Islamist party’s supporters were the ones who had helped him secure the state’s top post.
Subang PAS Youth chief ustaz Hanafi Zulkapli ticked Azmin off today for making a sarcastic remark on the defeat of PAS Youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Aziz at the latter’s divisional party election.
“Subang PAS Youth wishes to remind Azmin that his sitting in the Selangor menteri besar seat is the result of PAS’ courtesy, and not from (the work of) his own party (PKR).
“Azmin’s victory in Gombak is also the result of the strength and hard work of PAS’ broad machinery that had worked on instructions from the leadership,” Hanafi said in a statement.

PAS and PKR men in brawl over hudud outside mosque
BUKIT MERTAJAM: Groups of PAS members and PKR supporters brawled outside a mosque near here after a heated argument over hudud.
Bagan PAS youth chief Azmi Jaafar and his group were holding a demonstration outside the mosque in Kubang Semang here when they were interrupted by PKR supporters.
Members from both groups started to push and hurl insults at each other before a police team broke up the fight. Some of those involved were armed with iron rods but no one was injured in the fracas.
Azmi said the demonstration was held to tell voters in Permatang Pauh not to vote for those who are against hudud.
Former Permatang Pauh PAS secretary Abdul Razak Abdullah, who is also the mosque committee chairman, criticised the demonstration which disrupted the business of the traders there.
