Nurul Nuha to lead campaign to release Anwar Ibrahim

KUALA LUMPUR: Imprisoned Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s second daughter Nurul Nuha (pic) will lead the March to Freedom campaign for her family to free the Opposition leader.

Nurul Nuha added that the March to Freedom would be a local based movement that would reach out to Malaysians abroad while seeking pressure from international bodies to free Anwar who was sentenced by the Federal Court on Tuesday for sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan in June 2008.

“March to Freedom” is that struggle. A struggle to free our father from unjust incarceration and give voice to Malaysians who have suffered injustice in our country,” she said.

Nurul Nuha, who addressed the media for the first time in 1998, said that her father’s last words to her and her siblings after the court’s verdict on Tuesday was to “take care and remain strong”.

The 3D freelance graphic designer was joined by her sisters Nurul Izzah, Nurul Ilham, Nurul Iman, Nurul Hana and brother Ihsan with relatives and several PKR MPs.

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 11, 2015:

The “March to Freedom” campaign created by the six children of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will become one of the new agendas of Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar said for the purpose of freeing Anwar from prison and improving the shortcomings of law in this country, they would take this all the way up to the international level.

“Last night we, the PR Secretariat, held a meeting to discuss this and PAS and DAP representatives have expressed their consent for Dr Hatta Ramli to head the campaign.

“The question (of obtaining PR’s support) need not arise because we will adopt it as a PR agenda,” she said at a press conference at the residence of PKR’s de facto leader on Jalan Segambut.

At a teary-eyed press conference today, PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim’s family members revealed they would be organising a “March to Freedom” campaign.

The campaign, which is to be spearheaded by the family members, will be led by Anwar’s second daughter Nurul Nuha.

“We are going to set up a secretariat to lead the campaign to demand the release of Anwar and to fight against injustice,” Nurul Nuha said.

Fighting back her tears, she added that the campaign would also include overseas trips to meet with other Malaysians to gather solidarity for her jailed father.

Among one of the other focuses of the campaign would be to question the integrity of the judiciary system.

“We have seen the injustices of the judiciary, not only in Anwar’s case but other cases, like that of Lim Guan Eng and Irene Fernandez as well.

“We have to raise awareness of the people on this. Time for Malaysia to wake up,” Nurul Nuha (above) added.
