Wanchai is a hot spot for night-life and many flashy bars and clubs sit on this Lockhart Road ‘bar strip’. The first bar on video is Coyote’s, which has more than 75 margaritas/35 tequilas. The busiest parts are the corners by Luard Road and Fenwick Street. A number of go-go bars/clip joints still remain, bright with neon lights to draw you in. The area is home to a several British-style bars and a serious drinking crowd of expats. Several bars serve 24 hours a day. Expect it to get messy after 3am

Horror hits Hong Kong’s famed red-light district

HONG KONG — For generations of Western men, Hong Kong’s Wan Chai neighborhood captured all the mystery and hedonism of this financial capital known around the world as the Pearl of the Orient.

Prostitutes, strippers and bar girls entertained visiting sailors and businessmen at all hours in these neon-filled blocks, even as working-class Hong Kongers went about their business around them. And despite all the vice, foreigners could count on being able to walk home safely in the wee hours, while many prostitutes worked independently, without protection.

Business booms in Hong Kong’s red light district of Wanchai despite murders

1 December 2014

Wanchai is the red light centre of Hong Kong, the home of strip clubs, hotels where rooms are rented by the hour and where former British banker Rurik Jutting — who will stand trial for murder next July — picked up his alleged victims, prostitutes Sumarti Ningsi, 29, and Seneng Mujiash, 30.

At the Queen Victoria, which serves Jutting’s favourite brand of bitters and where he was a regular, the pub was packed in the early evening.

The girls, mostly wearing bikini tops, take turns twirling upside down provocatively on a pole on the dance floor, taking tips from customers.

When they slide off the pole they do laps of the pub talking to customers, who often sit alone nursing a pint in a dark corner.

One girl, Holly, had arrived that day from Vietnam on a holiday visa and headed straight to the Queen Vic for the night.
