The sedition charge against DAP lawmaker Teresa Kok over her controversial video entitled ‘Onederful Malaysia‘ was withdrawn today.

The prosecution dropped the case this morning at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court but gave no reasons.

“I am glad that the AG has finally dropped the sedition charge against me.

“I call upon the AG to immediately drop all sedition charges against all those currently charged under the act,” the Seputeh MP told reporters in Kuala Lumpur.

Kok claims trial over ‘seditious’ video satire

DAP vice chairperson Teresa Kok was today charged with sedition over her Chinese New Year video satire titled “Onederful Malaysia. The Seputeh MP claimed trial.

The Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court then set bail at RM4,000 with one surety.

Kok was charged under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948 for uploading a video titled “Teresa Kok: Onederful Malaysia CNY 2014” on Youtube at 9am on Feb 1, this year.

The court interpreter also read out the part of the video which contained Malay subtitles that were allegedly seditious.

KUALA LUMPUR: Seputeh MP Teresa Kok is expected to be charged in the Duta High Court at 9.30am Tuesday over her Chinese New Year “Onederful Malaysia CNY 2014” video.

Kuala Lumpur deputy CID director ACP Khairi Ahrasa confirmed Kok would be charged and that police had concluded investigations into the case under Section 505(B) of the Penal Code and Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

ACP Khairi however, refrained from stating whether Kok was to be charged for sedition.

Teresa Kok will be charged with sedition tomorrow over her Chinese New Year video paradody titled “Onederful Malaysia”.

Her lawyer Sankara Nair confirmed that the Seputeh MP will be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court.

Kok had received much flak over her video and was accused of insulting the Malays, Islam, the monarchy, the security forces and national leaders.

The DAP leader, however, denied the accusations.

On Feb 6, a group calling itself the ‘Coalition of Islamic NGOs’ held a protest in Kuala Lumpur and offered a RM2,000 reward to anybody who dared to slap Kok.
