Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Amar Singh has denied accusing four NGOs involved in the anti-price hike protest of planning to conduct bombings during the demonstration on Dec 31.
Utusan Malaysia quoted Amar as saying that he was only talking about the risk of bombings that may be done by other participants.
“During the press conference, I mentioned four NGOs were identified as being part of the protest. The gathering is against the law as they do not have a permit.
“My statement about bomb threats and dangerous weapons was not directed at the NGOs involved but was based on a statement by an individual on Facebook before this,” he was quoted as saying.
This comes after two of the NGOs, namely Solidarti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) and Jingga 13, had threatened to sue the senior cop.
The other NGOs named by Amar as being organisers of the protests were Gerakan Turun Kos Sara Hidup (Turun) and Solidariti Mahasiswa Malaysia (SMM).

PKR has issued an ultimatum to the police to retract allegations against its Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli or face court action.
This comes as Rafizi, the party’s strategic director, was summoned to the Dang Wangi police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur this morning to have his statement recorded in connection with allegations by pro-Umno blogs that he was involved in planning bombings during New Year’s eve.
“If the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar and the Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohmad Salleh do not retract the claims, we will file a lawsuit,” said PKR vice-president N. Surendran, who together with lawyer Latheefa Koya accompanied Rafizi to the police headquarters.

Police crime investigation director Hadi Ho Abdullah later issued a statement confirming that Rafizi is being questioned over an email allegedly sent to him from Abdul Rahim Ghouse, a close associate of PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.

PKR strategies director Rafizi Ramli, who was questioned by the police over an email calling for chaos at the price hikes rally on December 31, calls it a “bad play”.
Speaking to reporters at the police station this morning, he said he was shocked to receive a call from the police over alleged bombs planned for the rally.
“This matter isn’t just a bad play (permainan buruk), but it sets a bad precedent.
“After this, if someone gets an email concerning (Prime Minister Najib Razak’s wife) Rosmah Mansor, are they going question her?” he quipped.
Rafizi said what the police should do is investigate the blogger and Utusan Malaysia who are the ones spreading the purportedly fake email, before questioning the ones implicated without proof.
The Pandan MP also denied any knowledge of explosives.
“The only bomb that I know is kuih bom,” he joked.

Opposition behind ‘C for Chaos’ email, says Utusan
December 29, 2013
An email titled “C For Chaos” to incite a rally on New Year’s Eve was sent by the opposition, alleged Umno-backed daily Utusan Malaysia.
The email allegedly written by Abdul Rahim Ghouse, a close friend of opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has gone viral since it was first posted two days ago.
The email, addressed to Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli, details the December 31 rally known as Ops Turun with a line that says, “act as per discussed in our previous meeting”.
According to Utusan, the email has been published in blogs and that it contains a reference to sending a team to the site to record and “immediately upload” videos onto YouTube.
“It will become viral big time,” the email stated, adding that Umno and the ruling Barisan Nasional will be blamed. The team will also react to on-the-ground response to the event.
The email also highlighted specific locations that should be avoided.

The police have called PKR strategies director Rafizi Ramli in for questioning this morning, suspected to be over the planned price hikes rally on December 31.
According to his message to the media last night, he is to report to Dang Wangi police station at 11.30am.
“I suspect the PDRM has called me in to give my statement in relation to the slander that the Umno blogs had started, that I am involved in planning to plant bombs in certain locations on December 31,” he said.
Meanwhile, police crime investigation director Hadi Ho Abdullah issued a statement confirming that Rafizi is being questioned over an email allegedly sent to him from Abdul Rahim Ghouse, a close associate of PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.

Yesterday Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Amar Singh Ishar Singh alleged that the protestors plan to use various weapons, including grenades, to spark unrest.
Such allegations are reminiscent of allegations of unrest and the use of weapons in 2011 during the massive Bersih 2.0 rally for clean and fair elections, when the police claimed to have found parangs and Molotov cocktails but those responsible have never been identified.

Police today issued a stern warning that individuals or groups would be charged for holding an anti-price hike protest on New Year’s Eve at Dataran Merdeka this Tuesday.
Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Amar Singh Ishar Singh said police would not hesitate to detain parties attempting to spark unrest under the Penal Code and the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma).

The police appear to be convinced that there will be a rally at Dataran Merdeka on Dec 31 by those seeking to overthrow the ruling party from Putrajaya.

Police have arrested a youth for posting a seditious message on Facebook to promote a so-called rally to overthrow the federal government on New Year’s Eve.
According to federal CID chief Hadi Ho Abdullah, the suspect operated a Facebook page under the name Asmaelz Hadzeny II and was arrested in Saratok, Sarawak, at 11am today.
“He will be brought to Kuala Lumpur to assist in investigations. Police have classified the case under Section 124C of the Penal Code for attempt to commit activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy,” Hadi said in a post on the police’s official Facebook page.
The police appear to be convinced that there will be a rally at Dataran Merdeka on Dec 31 by those seeking to overthrow the ruling party from Putrajaya.
Thus far, only one group – Gerakan Turun Harga Kos Sara (Turun) – has rallied the public to attend a demonstration on that day, with the intention of expressing public discontent over government policies that has led to a rise in the cost of b

Malaysia on high alert ahead of planned New Year’s Eve protests
Malaysian authorities are on high alert as they prepare to crack down on anyone participating in a street rally calling for an overthrow of the government. The protests are planned for New Year’s Eve on December 31.
KUALA LUMPUR: New Year’s Eve is typically a night of celebration, but in Malaysia, some groups are planning protests, counting down to a year they feel will be filled with economic hardship.
Turun is one coalition that will be rallying on 31 December, against slashes to subsidies, hikes in electricity tariffs and the impending introduction of the GST.
Police believe the opposition-linked Turun may have more dangerous plans, and on Monday night, they detained its leader, 24-year-old Mohd Azan Safar.
Malaysian authorities are on high alert as they prepare to crack down on anyone participating in a street rally calling for an overthrow of the government.
Mr Mohd Azan’s lawyer, Mr Ahmad Zamri Asa’ad Khuzaimi, said: “That is what the police said — investigating a plot to overthrow the government — which for us is very ridiculous; for a student (who just) graduated to overthrow the government, (it) is a very big allegation.”
Mr Muhamad Bukhari, from Turun, said: “It’s unrealistic and a lunatic idea. We deny it, we never tried to compromise or (be) involved in the group that tried to abolish the government.”
Police are on high alert after news broke on social media of a New Year Eve’s rally with plans to topple the Barisan Nasional government.
A special investigative task force was even set up after someone posted a Facebook status asking where he could find a bomb for the rally.
…
Whether or not Turun has anti-government motives, the authorities said it will take stern action against anyone who organises rallies without observing the proper laws and requirements.
