Storm St Jude: Victim drawn to the sea then lost to the storm

Arms outstretched and laughing as giant waves crashed around him, this was 14-year-old Dylan Alkins, one of the victims of Britain’s killer storm.
The photo was taken two weeks ago on the south coast near Newhaven, East Sussex, where Dylan was swept out to sea on Sunday night.
The image was posted on a Facebook page in his memory.
Friend Aaron Windsor, who was with Dylan just before he died, said: ‘I told him not to go in but he didn’t listen to me.’

PETALING JAYA: Malaysians in Britain have not been spared in what is described as one of the worst storms to hit the island in many years.
Student Sharlyn J. Edmund, who is studying criminology at Aberystwyth University in Wales, said that the area was lashed with strong winds in the past few days.
The weather’s been pretty bad everywhere in the country. It’s scary,” she said yesterday.
Postgraduate student Shariha Roseley, 25, from the University of Leeds, said heavy rain had been falling in her area for two to three days.
“The weather was cold and windy when I travelled to Oxford a fortnight ago. It is certainly the worst (storm) I’ve seen for the past few years,” she said.
Ainaa Azhar, a Malaysian student based in Bath, said that she had to reschedule her plans due to disrupted train service in the morning.
“Rubbish bins and trees were blown away. I and other students have been advised not to travel too far at this time,” he added.

IT’S ST JUDE! Not the saint patron of desperate causes but the hurricane-force now over the UK!
The Independent
It is billed as the “storm of the century” and would, if doomsday predictions were to be believed, bring the country to a grinding halt.
However, after initial forecasts of high winds and torrential rains due to strike today, later reports of the path and strength of the “St Jude’s Day Storm” were contradictory. The most concrete warning weathermen would give uncertain Britons was to “prepare” for winds of up to 80mph.
In a reflection of the pessimism with which many viewed the storm, it was named after St Jude – patron saint of desperate causes – whose feast day is tomorrow. When asked to comment on the storm’s name, the Met Office said naming storms was not within “their remit”.
What does St Jude have in store for us? The patron saint of …
