Recalled North Korean ambassador to Malaysia executed as part of purge

SEOUL: All relatives of the executed uncle of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un have been executed at his instruction, including the former ambassadors to Cuba and Malaysia.

South Korea’s Yonhap news agency reported that all relatives of Jang Song-thaek, including children – as well as former ambassador to Malaysia Jang Yong-chol, have been executed.

Yong-chol, who is Song-thaek’s nephew, along with his two sons, have been put to death as part of a purge.

It was reported that sources informed other executed relatives include Yong-chol’s sister Kye-sun and her husband and ambassador to Cuba, Jon Yong-jin.

It was said sons, daughters and even grandchildren of Song-thaek’s two brothers were also executed.

The executed ambassadors were allegedly recalled to Pyongyang, North Korea’s capital in early December and executed.

However, some relatives by marriage, including the former Malaysian ambassador’s wife, were spared and sent to remote villages along with their maiden families, according to sources.

MORE RUMOUR OR TRUTH? Who knows?

Ex-family chef claims Kim Jong-un killed uncle for having PIMPED young girls for his dad’s ‘JOY DIVISION’

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un may have executed his uncle because of his role as a procurer of a ‘pleasure brigade’ of young girls.

Jang Song Thaek allegedly had the task of recruiting girls – some as young as 15 – for the country’s late dictator Kim Jong Il.

According to a former family sushi chef, Kenji Fujimoto, North Korea’s 31-year-old leader was disgusted by his father’s immoral antics and has now punished his uncle for abusing his position.

Fujimoto claims Jang would insist on sleeping with the candidates himself before considering them for Kim’s ‘joy division’ – girls chosen to sing, dance and bathe the leader.

Jang, who was put to death by his nephew last month, was married to Kim Jong Un’ s aunt, Kim Kyong Hui.

‘[Kim Jong Un] hates that kind of thing the most. His grandfather Kim Il Sung did similar things. His father also had quite a history with women. So having seen them, he wanted to prove that he’s different and that he would eradicate such practices, Fujimoto told NK News.

‘Mr Jang Song Thaek had relations with multiple women. Supreme Commander Kim Jong Un could not forgive this, so he executed Mr Jang Song Thaek, his caretaker and guardian,’ he added.

Dennis Rodman sings happy birthday to Kim Jong-un

Published on Jan 8, 2014

Dennis Rodman leads an auditorium in singing “Happy Birthday” to the North Korean leader, in a style strangely reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe.

Former NBA basketball player Dennis Rodman led a chorus of Happy Birthday, in a style strangely reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe, ahead of an exhibition match marking the North Korean dictator’s birthday.

“It started out as surreal, then people joined in and it sort of faded a bit, but it seemed pretty heartfelt from Rodman’s side,” said Simon Cockerell, a tour guide who watched the game in Pyongyang, said of Rodman’s birthday singing.

“It was unexpected, and probably unplanned,” he said. “Kim Jong Un appeared to smile, but he didn’t appear to expect it.”

Cockerell, whose company Koryo Tours took a group of tourists to the game, said the audience had stood and cheered Kim for up to six minutes when he appeared with his wife.

This was Rodman’s fourth trip to Pyongyang. On previous visits, he spent time dining as a guest of Kim, with whom he says he has a genuine friendship, though he did not meet Kim on his third trip.

Rodman appeared emotional as he spoke from North Korea saying, “it’s a very historical day today for everyone in the world to see that we can coexist with each other”.

North Korea: Kim Jong-un’s Uncle ‘Devoured by 120 Starving Dogs’

The uncle of North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un was executed by being eaten alive by 120 starving dogs along with his five closest aides, according to a report.

A detailed account of the brutal execution – known as “quan jue”, or execution by dogs – was revealed by the Hong Kong newspaper Wen Wei Po, which acts as an official mouthpiece for mainland China.

Unlike previous executions of political prisoners, killed by firing squads with machine guns, Jang Song-thaek was stripped naked and thrown into a cage with his aides.

Then, 120 dogs which had been starved for three days, were “allowed to prey on them until they were completely eaten up,” according to The Straits Times.

The execution lasted one hour and was monitored by the dictator and 300 senior officials.

Seoul (AFP) – North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un said Wednesday the Korean peninsula would be engulfed by “massive nuclear disaster” if war breaks out there again, warning the US it will not be safe in the event of a conflict.

“If the war breaks out again in this land, it will bring about a massive nuclear disaster and the US will never be safe,” Kim said in his New Year message, broadcast on state TV.

“He hoped the cooperation between the DPRK and Malaysia in education would develop in the future,” the Korean Central News Agency reported.

North Korea has executed the uncle of its leader Kim Jong-Un after a shock purge, state news agency KCNA said Friday, branding the once-powerful Jang Song-Thaek “despicable human scum” and a “traitor for all ages”.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un (R), flanked by his uncle Jang Song Thaek, leaves a military parade to mark the birth anniversary of the North’s late leader Kim Jong-il, Feb 16, 2012.

SEOUL (Dec 13, 2013): North Korea has executed the uncle of its leader Kim Jong-Un after a shock purge, state news agency KCNA said Friday, branding the once-powerful Jang Song-Thaek “despicable human scum” and a “traitor for all ages”.

Jang was executed on Thursday shortly after a special military trial, KCNA reported, after committing such a “hideous crime as attempting to overthrow the state by all sorts of intrigues and despicable methods with a wild ambition to grab the supreme power of our party and state”.

“The accused is a traitor to the nation for all ages who perpetrated anti-party, counter-revolutionary factional acts in a bid to overthrow the leadership of our party and state and the socialist system.”

In a viciously-worded attack, the regime accused Jang of betraying the trust of both Kim Jong-Un and his father Kim Jong-Il, saying he had received “deeper trust” from the younger leader in particular.

Branding Jang “despicable human scum… worse than a dog”, the regime accused him of attempting to stand in the way of Kim Jong-Un’s succession, according to KCNA.

Jang let in “undesirable and alien elements” to a department of the party’s crucial Central Committee in a bid to “rally a group of reactionaries to be used by him for toppling the leadership of the party and state”, it said.

Washington said it could not verify the report but had no reason to doubt that Jang had been executed.

And HELP uni gave Kim a DOCTORATE! N Korea executes 80 people for watching foreign TV

NORTH Korea publicly executed around 80 people earlier this month, many for watching smuggled South Korean TV shows, a South Korean newspaper reported Monday.

The conservative JoongAng Ilbo cited a single, unidentified source, but at least one North Korean defector group said it had heard rumours that lent credibility to the front-page report.

Watching unsanctioned foreign films or TV – especially those from the capitalist South – is a serious offence in North Korea.

However, efforts to control their distribution have been circumvented by technology, with an increasing number of foreign films and TV shows being smuggled in on DVDs, flash drives and mp3 players.

As well as South Korean soap operas, US shows like Desperate Housewives are believed to have a small but avid following.

N. Koreans tell of abuse, starvation

WASHINGTON (Oct 31, 2013): North Korean defectors told of famine and torture in the final hearing of a UN-led investigation into the Communist regime’s human rights abuses late Wednesday.

The escapees described being beaten in prison after numerous attempts to flee their food-barren country, and how family members had died of starvation or been captured and sold as sex slaves.

“They kicked me around like a ball, slapped me in the face, said Jin Hye Jo, 26.

“[They] put metal objects in their clothes and hit me all over [with them] until my back was black and blue.”

Jin said she was caught and repatriated to North Korea four times before finally making her way to the United States in 2008, via Beijing right before the Olympics.

Jin described her family’s hardships in the late 1990s at the time of a great famine that killed an estimated 1 to 3 million people.

“We took my baby brother to town try to get milk from other people lactating, because my mother was undernourished and couldn’t feed him,” Jin said with tears filling her eyes as she told how her baby brother died in her arms.

Another witness who only wanted be identified as Ms X said she was brutally abused in a North Korean prison after being sent back from China on a failed escape attempt.

“Because I told the guards someone in the cell was dying, they hit my head with a board with nails, I started bleeding,” the 53-year-old told the panel.

“They didn’t feed me for three days.”

Helping Kim: HELP’s bad mistake

Koon Yew Yin | October 28, 2013

HELP’s award does not appear to be one to ‘build a bridge to help people’ – it is simply to help itself.

In the last few days, the big buzz in education in the internet media has been the award of an honorary doctorate by HELP University, one of the major private universities in the country.

The news of this award has raised a firestorm of criticism from many readers in the internet – and quite rightly so. But it is necessary to look beyond the obvious concerns and to use it to understand what is happening in our educational system and why developments such as this are taking place.

From what I have seen…most of our private universities do not care about the low standard of the students they take in and the final product that they churn out.

All they are concerned with is to maximize their student intake, rake in fat profits by charging the highest fees possible, and push the graduates out quickly so that another fee paying intake replaces the ones who are leaving.

Trumpeting the achievements of the university and drawing attention on how it is able to provide value to the prospective student is another method.

This to me is the reason why HELP has bestowed what is for most universities their most prestigious academic award to a dictator and tyrant who presides over one of the most totalitarian and repressive regimes in our region.

HELP’s award does not appear to be one to “build a bridge to help people“- it is simply to help itself.

A Malaysian university faced public criticism Thursday for awarding an honorary doctorate in economics to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, whose country is among the poorest in the world.

The event initially received little attention in this Southeast Asian nation but was reported briefly by North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency. It attracted criticism on social networks in Malaysia this week after the U.S.-based Foreign Policy magazine posted a blog article that expressed surprise about the decision.

Many Malaysians who wrote on the university’s Facebook page and shared information about the decision criticized it. Nick Lim said it was an “insult to the academia,” while Daniel Wong wrote that he was “ashamed to have graduated from this institution.”

Netizens heap scorn on Help University over honorary doctorate to North Korean leader

BY ELIZABETH ZACHARIAH
October 23, 2013

Netizens have expressed outrage over a private university’s awarding of an honorary doctorate to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un (pic) recently.

Help University vice-chancellor and president Datuk Dr Paul Chan presented the doctorate in economics to North Korean embassy officials in a ceremony in Kuala Lumpur on October 3.

This was followed by a blog posting titled “Why One Obscure Malaysian University Gave Kim Jong Un An Honorary Doctorate”, which was soon shared on Facebook.

The blog article poked fun at the doctorate to Kim, pointing out that his “greatest economic achievement appears to be stewarding one of the world’s most dysfunctional economies”.

Isaac Stone Fish, who wrote the piece, said he had contacted the university to question the decision.

“Not only did the college confirm that it granted Kim the degree, but it also sent over a statement from Dr Paul Chan, the president and vice chancellor, explaining why the university chose to build a bridge to reach the people of North Korea.

“Within six years, North Korea ‘will engage the world in many constructive ways’,  Chan predicted in a statement that leaps from Socrates to Henry Kissinger to Malala Yousafzai,” Fish wrote.

He said Chan, who he noted “had an actual PhD in Economics”, hoped the soft, constructive approach can help North Korea and North Asia and the world to be a better place, referring to the conferment of the award.

North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong Un receives honorary doctorate in Economics from HELP University.

PETALING JAYA: HELP University has awarded a honorary doctorate in Economics to North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong Un.

On Tuesday, the Washington-based Foreign Policy blog and Korea Services News (KNS) reported that the Kim Jong Un was awarded the honorary doctorate at a ceremony at the North Korean embassy in Kuala Lumpur on Oct 3.

It was also reported in KNS that public figures, including the university president, North Korean ambassador to Malaysia and embassy members were present at the ceremony.

KNS also reported that Jong Un was awarded to doctorate in recognition of his “untiring efforts for the education of the country and the well-being of its people.”

HELP University’s corporate communication department confirmed the award but declined to comment.

A broken clock, they say, is still right twice a day, and the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), North Korea’s premier English-language news site, does even better. Much of its domestic coverage is depressingly optimistic propaganda..

Every so often, in other words, the agency churns out stories that are, broadly speaking, news. Earlier this month, I encountered such an article: a KCNA report crowing that a Malaysian institution of higher learning, known as Help University, had awarded North Korean leader Kim Jong Un an honorary doctorate in economics — in recognition of his “untiring efforts for the education of the country and the well-being of its people.”

Help, it turns out, is a real university. Founded in 1986 to “provide affordable quality educational opportunities for Malaysians,” the private, Kuala Lumpur-based college brands itself as the “university of achievers.”..

Given that Kim’s greatest economic achievement appears to be stewarding one of the world’s most dysfunctional economies, I reached out to Help University to find out why the school would give him an honorary degree in economics. Not only did the college confirm that it granted Kim the degree, but it also sent over a statement from Dr. Paul Chan, the president and vice chancellor, explaining why the university chose to build “a bridge to reach the people” of North Korea. (Malaysia is one of North Korea’s closest allies in Southeast Asia, and its citizens are reportedly among the very few allowed visa-free entry into North Korea.)

Within six years, North Korea “will engage the world in many constructive ways,” Chan predicts, in a statement that leaps from Socrates to Henry Kissinger to Malala Yousafzai. “When a world leader facilitates this, probably an American  President, there will be a rush to DPR Korea. Everyone will rush in to offer assistance and investment. I am just a bit ahead of them in that I feel no one at this moment has the courage to do this though their hearts tell them to do so.”

“[L]et’s start with offering education opportunities to the people of this country with the support of their President,” adds Chan, who has an actual Ph.D. in economics. “Why deny them? Why punish them with sanctions? The people are hungry for education to change their lives. Give it to them.”

A simple check on HELP lecturers’ publication shows that the staff published mainly in questionable journals. An example is:
    http://www.ccsenet.org/journal/index.php/mas/article/view/23117
Both Modern Applied Science (the publisher is “canadian centre of science and education”) and Macrothink are notorious fake publishers. See widely recognised list of fake journals/publishers http://scholarlyoa.com/2012/12/06/bealls-list-of-predatory-publishers-2013/

What’s more shocking is that these publications from HELP have co-authors from Monash University – Dr. Poon Wai Ching and Dr. Tam Cai Lian. Dr. Tam Cai Lian has more than one publication in questionable outlets. The name ‘Poon Wai Ching’ rang a bell as she is the only recipient in the recent Malaysian Competition Commission Research Grant. I ran a check on Dr. Poon Wai Ching’s publication — I regret to say that Dr Poon Wai Ching’s publication is full of JUNK! I read an abstract of her working paper that made no sense: http://www.macrothink.org/journal/index.php/ajfa/article/view/1443
She has a recent book publication with ‘Lambert Academic Publishing’ — this publisher is a scam.
I’m sure there will be interesting finds if someone really runs a check on the quality of the publication of academics in the country.
