Anti TPPA protest at KLCC
Protestors gathered to say ‘no’ to TPPA at KLCC today while US Secretary of State attends 4th Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2013.
KUALA LUMPUR: Around 100 protestors gathered in front of the KLCC As-Syirikin mosque and thereafter marched towards KLCC to protest against the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA).
The protest was led by Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) and supported by other NGOs such as Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM), Aids council group and Malaysian Indian Progressive Association (MIPAS).
In support, opposition MPs too made their presence in the protest namely; PAS leader Salahuddin Ayub, Batu MP Tian Chua and Sg. Siput MP Dr Jayakumar.
Other notable NGO activists such as S Arutchelvam and Badrul Hisham Sharin aka Chegu Bard were also seen at the protest.
The march which started at 2.30 pm walked towards KLCC and stopped there for almost 40 minutes to allow the opposition politicians and NGO activists to give talks in protest against the TPPA.
The protest was done in a peaceful manner despite the heavy rain which did not deter the spirit of the protesters who continued to march.
The protest was held while the 4th Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2013 was in progress at the KLCC.
The two day summit beginning today was attended by US Secretary of State John Kerry.

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has agreed to speak at a ceramah tomorrow night in Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur, against the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA).
There is still no response from former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who has also been invited, although the organiser – Bantah TPPA – remains hopeful he will come.At a press conference today, spokesperson Badrul Hisham Shaharin described Mahathir as a “statesman who values national sovereignty”.
“I am confident and believe … (he) will surely be gracious and set aside domestic politics to defend sovereignty on the stage that we will prepare …,” he said.
The ceramah is slated for 8.30pm tomorrow at Kelab Sultan Sulaiman. Other speakers invited are Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim, social activist Hishammudin Rais, and PAS’ Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad.
