Chua cast doubts on Bernama’s explanation that the doctored photograph had been attributed to the photographer and an alleged attempt to “sabotage” the government-owned news agency.
“Very few Malaysians, save for loyal BN supporters who are always giving blind support, believe that the doctoring of pictures was the act of an individual out to sabotage the national news agency.

The PKR Johor chief doubts a photographer would risk his job to doctor the photo of Najib Tun Razak, as implied by Bernama.
PETALING JAYA: Bernama’s claim that its photo of Najib Tun Razak was doctored at its point of origin will lead to another case of chasing the small fish and ignoring the big fish, Chua Jui Meng said today.
The PKR Johor chief said the national news agency had delayed admitting its guilt until pressure had mounted from the public, and even then, it had chosen to finger the source from where the photograph was sent rather than shoulder the blame.
“I doubt the doctoring was done by the photographer who would not be so stupid to put his job on the line because such doctoring can easily be detected,” Chua said in a scathing statement today.
“But he could have been pressured by his superiors to do so,” he said.

The home and cultural ministers must apologise following Bernama’s admission that one of its photographs had been doctored, as the news agency belongs to the government, said Johor PKR.
“It is the BN government’s national news agency and therefore the ministers linked to media affairs, namely Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein and Information, Communications and Culture Minister Rais Yatim, must apologise to Malaysians for the national shame,” said Johor PKR chief Chua Jui Meng.
Chua (right) in a statement today said this was necessary because Bernama’s admission of the “unethical” incident alone was insufficient.
“Admitting that its photographs of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in Pekan, Pahang….were doctored to reflect huge crowds is not enough.
“Finding a scapegoat to take the rap is also deplorable as it will further shame Malaysia,” he said.

The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) has conducted an initial investigation into allegations that one of its recent photographs was manipulated, said its editor-in-chief Yong Soo Heong.
“Initial checks revealed that the flawed picture was discovered at the source from where it was sent,” he said today when commenting on a Bernama picture taken in Pekan last Saturday.
Further investigations were ongoing to determine the motive of the person concerned and whether there were elements of sabotage, Yong said.

Bernama takes down suspicious crowd photo
Bernama, the national news agency, has quietly taken down a news photograph which appeared to have been doctored, with a duplicated portion of a crowd scene at a constituency function held by Umno president Najib Tun Razak in Pekan.
No explanation has been made by the news agency.

The photo had been run in the New Straits Times without originally being credited to Bernama. The image was at all times available at the online gallery of Bernama Images, where news photographs are displayed for public viewing and purchase. Photographs in the public gallery are watermarked (below) but not the higher-resolution images for press use. (Bernama supplies news reports and photographs to the press.)
The original image of this photo was taken from Bernama Images’ online gallery. The oval around Najib shows the Bernama watermark that is placed on every photo for public viewing. The upper oval shows the suspicious portion.

Netizens have claimed that a photograph published by the New Straits Times had been doctored to make the crowd at Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s gathering in Pekan last Saturday to appear bigger in numbers.
The alleged doctored photograph, which had exact duplicates of the crowd in the background, had began circulating on Facebook since Sunday.
The photograph had also caught the attention of prominent bloggers including top pro-Pakatan Rakyat blogger Milosuam, who mockingly explained that the picture was a case of a supernatural occurrence.
“Open your eyes and try to pay attention, there are at least ten ghosts that appeared behind Najib,” he jibed, in reference to the alleged duplicated crowd.
Meanwhile, a prominent graphic designer who goes by the online moniker Kukubesi encouraged the graphic artist behind the photograph to take lessons from him.
“They can join my editing classes so they can edit better,” he quipped on Facebook.
