THE DANCE SOCIETY/CLUB

Dance is very important to Chinese Independent Schools, being seen not only as a means of artistic expression but also as a vehicle for passing on traditional values. Indeed, the latter is deemed more important than the former.

Traditional dance is, thus, often the mainstay of dance clubs. This is obvious from the costumes worn by dancers. However, a touch of modernity is to be seen, as in the bare arms of female dancers.

Moreover, modern dance movements are also incorporated, as you will note from the height to which legs are raised!

I have quite a lot of photos of the haunted house in 2010 which I shall upload later.

This was the entrance to the haunted house

These were members of the team who are featured in the video

The usual comment is, “It’s so dark! Can’t see much.”

My reply, “Of course it’s dark! It’s a haunted house!”

I taught English at Yuk Choy High School, Jelapang from January 2009 to July 2010. That is a short period of time but from the numerous photo albums I have of the school, its teaching and administrative staff and students, it looks as if I had packed several years into 18 months or so.

In some schools, you don’t feel you belong but at Yuk Choy, I felt very much a part of everything.

Firstly, my new colleagues made me feel I belonged. They never treated me like a newcomer but took me into their fold immediately.

Secondly, the students were open to their new teacher. They were wonderful.

COME BACK FOR MORE LATER….

TEACHERS’ DAY 2009 WAS CELEBRATED ON 25 JULY 2009

Many performances were put on to entertain the whole school.

THE ELECTION OF THE TOP TEN STUDENTS.

This was a practice of the school and in 2009, it was held. It was a biennial event, that is, held every two years.

Candidates were nominated, and then they engaged in an election campaign!

I understand that it has been discontinued. That is a pity. The whole process mirrored the democratic process and was a good training ground for adulthood.

THERE WAS A POSTER CAMPAIGN

THAT WAS FOLLOWED BY THE VOTING.

ALL TEACHERS AND STUDENTS WENT TO THE HALL TO CAST THEIR VOTES.

What a good way to learn about the democratic process!

THE RESULTS WERE POSTED AS SOON AS THEY WERE AVAILABLE.

There is more.
