Denmark, one of the first to declare the pandemic over and enter the Pretendemic™ phase.

Let's take a look at some of the key numbers/graphs and provide some context for why I find the situation (and strategy) concerning 🧵.https://t.co/kS0B0bWC9t

I want to make a very important point. A narrative here in Denmark is that we can't trust hospitalizations because only some of the hospitalizations are because of COVID, while others are just people with broken arms who then also happen to have COVID.
— Thomas Baekdal (@baekdal) February 15, 2022
For instance, here is a news article in one of the largest Danish newspapers basically arguing that these foreign experts are wrong because they don't understand the nuances (they do): https://t.co/kdqBfzde2g pic.twitter.com/xHvkEJevyb
— Thomas Baekdal (@baekdal) February 15, 2022
So let's do a little fact-checking.
— Thomas Baekdal (@baekdal) February 15, 2022
What is the number of cases of people hospitalized *with* and not *because* of COVID. Well, according to SSI (the Danish CDC). Well, according to the latest data (from today), it's 30-40% who were hospitalized because of other reasons pic.twitter.com/I6Jymr8Ccy
As you can clearly see, the number of hospitalized *because* of COVID is now higher than it was during the second wave … so when the Danish authorities and the press say the opposite, that's just straight-up misinformation.
— Thomas Baekdal (@baekdal) February 15, 2022
This is what worries me, the narrative is the modus operandi of many under developed countries to bail out government policies. Fact is, if you die *with* COVID is most likely COVID got you worse, even vaccinated, there should be simply no difference, all should be *because of*

Denmark's Covid death rate was half the world average in November. So they stopped almost ALL mitigation efforts.

"Endemic Delusion".
— Kristian G. Andersen (@K_G_Andersen) February 10, 2022
Used to describe the delusional belief that the pandemic is over and that we can get back to 2019 life by suppressing the fact that we need to keep innovating and fight the virus.
Best exemplified by Denmark 👇 pic.twitter.com/ENKJQTArZP
Yet, all of this is basically ignored by Danish media by now – mostly via:
— Kristian G. Andersen (@K_G_Andersen) February 10, 2022
1. Focusing on ICU numbers – which are stable, however, ignoring the fact that deaths are going up.
2. Endlessly focusing on "with COVID" vs "for COVID", ignoring the fact that it's all "COVID".
The issue is that if we simply declare the pandemic over – when that is very much not the case – we stop innovating and fighting, which will only prolong the pandemic and make it worse.
— Kristian G. Andersen (@K_G_Andersen) February 10, 2022
We need to innovate our way out of this – better vaccines, drugs, masks, tests, and systems!

Many of the hospitalized elderly will never leave the hospitals again.
Many of those babies will live with long-lasting consequences all their lives.
