We only scaled down number of security personnel for Dr M, says IGP
INSPECTOR-GENERAL of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun has again refuted claims that bodyguard services for former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had been withdrawn, saying the police only reduced the number of officers.
“We just scaled down (the number of officers). It all depends on threats; if we think there is a serious threat against him, we will beef up the number and provide the necessary security.
“At the moment, even his wife has a female Special Action Force (UTK) officer serving her, (and) we provide security for his house. Many quarters are making baseless allegations,” he said today in Cheras, referring to Dr Mahathir’s wife, Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali.

I can list down everything Putrajaya revoked, says Dr Mahathir
The Prime Minister’s Department in a statement today said that they allocated 21 personnel for Dr Mahathir at his office at the Perdana Leadership Foundation (YKP) and at his residence at The Mines Resort City, Selangor, in line with the Member of Parliament (Remuneration) Act, 1980 (Act 237).
The statement also said there was no truth behind the viral news on social media recently about the revocation of services for the former prime minister.
But Dr Mahathir today said the statement was untrue.
When asked if the government still paid for his escorts, Dr Mahathir said it had removed the Special Action Unit (UTK) members and his escorts.

Dr Mahathir still has bodyguards, says IGP
FORMER prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s bodyguard service provided by the elite Special Action Unit (UTK) has not been withdrawn and only ordinary members of the police force were recalled, Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said, as reported by Mingguan Malaysia.
“That is totally not true. The bodyguard service that comprises UTK officers are still serving with Dr Mahathir,” Mohamad Fuzi told the Malay newspaper.
“Only ordinary members (of the police force) have been recalled for other assignments. It’s just normal procedure ,” he said.

IGP: Only normal cops for Dr M recalled, UTK still in service
The inspector-general of police denied cops have withdrawn the bodyguard service provided by the police’s elite arm Special Action Unit (UTK) to former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
IGP Mohamad Fuzi Harun explained that services from the UTK for Mahathir were still in place but several bodyguards from the regular police force were instructed to report back for duty with the Royal Malaysian Police.
“It is only normal police officers whom we have recalled for other services. It’s a normal procedure,” he was quoted as saying by Mingguan Malaysia.
Mahathir, in a Facebook post on Wednesday, claimed that the services of the UTK for his protection were withdrawn.

Shameful and petty of Putrajaya to pull back Dr Mahathir’s bodyguards, say social media users
PRIME Minister Najib Razak made it personal when he terminated former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Special Action Unit (UTK) service, say Malaysians on Facebook and Twitter.
Calling it a ‘shameful act’ by Putrajaya, social media users say should anything happen to Dr Mahathir now, Najib will simply blame others.
They, however, pointed out that even without the UTK bodyguard, Dr Mahathir would still remain safe as no right-minded Malaysian will want to harm the 92-year-old Pakatan Harapan chairman.
They were commenting on Putrajaya’s decision yesterday to withdraw the the personal bodyguard of Dr Mahathir, a privilege given to all former prime ministers.
Facebook users Denzel Loo and Kent Lee said that if anything happens to Mahathir, Najib will push the blame to someone else.
“And later, if anything happens to Tdm (Tun Dr Mahathir) he will say (it’s) not his fault.
“Like I said before, desperate people do desperate things. What else can’t they do to save themselves? Better you die than I die motto,” Loo commented.
“God bless Tun M, although no one will think of hurting Tun, if anything happens to him, Najib will just brush it off,” Lee commented.
Other Facebook users like Dah Ahmadshah questioned the reason behind withdrawing the UTK bodyguard.
“What reason was given to withdraw Dr Mahathir’s bodyguard ? Who ordered it and on what authority and basis ? The country has every right to know. This is a shameful act.
“This is an act that embarrasses the nation, he must give back Dr Mahathir’s bodyguards. Show the former prime minister some respect. Salute the Tun as he will remember who did this to the nation. This is not good and unfair,” Dah Ahmadshah said.

‘The people will be Mahathir’s bodyguards now’
Pakatan Harapan leaders slam the withdrawal of Dr Mahathir’s personal bodyguard service, calling the move petty and low-class.
.
PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders today hit out at the police and the government for withdrawing the personal bodyguard service for former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
DAP’s Zaid Ibrahim said the police and the prime minister had shown Mahathir the utmost disrespect.
“It’s petty and it’s uncalled for.
“But never mind, the people will be his bodyguards. They will protect him,” he told FMT.
PH chief secretary Saifuddin Abdullah meanwhile said in established democracies, former leaders, whether prime ministers or presidents, were accorded an official status and privileges such as an office and security details.
“Withdrawing the personal bodyguard service shows that our democracy is really low-class,” he said.
Zaid and Saifuddin were responding to news today that the police had withdrawn the personal bodyguard service provided for Mahathir’s protection by the Special Action Unit (UTK).
The withdrawal of the personal bodyguard service came a year after Putrajaya ended the contract for Mahathir’s cook and office assistant.

Mahathir’s bodyguard service withdrawn

KUALA LUMPUR: Police today withdrew the personal bodyguard service provided by the police Special Action Unit (UTK) for the protection of former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad.
The withdrawal of the personal bodyguard service comes a year after Putrajaya ended the contract for Mahathir’s cook and office assistant.
“Today, the services of UTK were withdrawn. The struggle continues,” the 92-year-old chairman of the opposition front, Pakatan Harapan, wrote in his Facebook post.
Last year, Mahathir’s police outriders were also withdrawn after his privileges were revoked following his attendance at anti-government events.
Former inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar had said that Mahathir would have to apply for traffic police escorts and he would get them only if he attends official government functions.
Last year, Mahathir’s police outriders were also withdrawn after his privileges were revoked following his attendance at anti-government events.
.
The Star had quoted Khalid as saying: “We will consider traffic police escorts for Mahathir on a case-by-case basis.
“But I did not withdraw his personal bodyguard, who is a policeman from the UTK (Unit Tindakan Khas), for his personal safety.”
