PETALING JAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s latest recruit Wan Saiful Wan Jan is speculated to contest the Putrajaya parliamentary seat in the coming general election.
Sources within Pribumi told The Star that the former chief executive officer of the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (Ideas) is highly favoured among the party’s top leadership to contest the seat, currently held by Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
“He is intelligent and a prominent figure in Putrajaya. We believe his candidacy will go down well with Putrajaya voters because most of them are involved in the government and policy-making,” sources said.
Wan Saiful said he does not dismiss the prospect of him being fielded as a candidate in Putrajaya.
“I’m not dismissing any possibilities, but it’s for the party to decide,” he said at Pribumi’s headquarters at Menara Yayasan yesterday.
However, Wan Saiful stressed that contesting in the polls has never been his intention of joining the one-year-old Umno splinter party.
“The discussion between us has always been about what can we do to help the party grow,” he added.

KUALA LUMPUR: Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has apologised for his ‘slow learners go to UiTM’ remark on Sunday, which triggered widespread outrage.
He said he had no intention of denigrating anyone, and is sincerely sorry if his statement had hurt other’s feelings.
“I was giving a motivational speech to students. It is something I do because I want them to realise that the government which has been in power for the past 60 years has contributed many things that are taken for granted.
“The most important thing the government has provided is security… with this, we are able to do everything; earn a living, run businesses, (receive an) education and many more.
“That was my intention while I was speaking,” he said during a joint press conference with Universiti Teknologi Mara’s (UiTM) Alumni Association today at his office in Menara Dato’ Onn.
The conference followed a private meeting between the minister, who is better known as “Ku Nan”, and the association on the matter.
He thanked the association’s president Datuk Mohd Zaini Hassan and the association’s members for accepting his apology.

PRU-14: Ku Nan sedia lawan Dr. M
KUALA LUMPUR 8 Okt.

GE14: Maybe I’ll stand in Putrajaya, says Mahathir
Former prime minister hints that he may stand in the country’s administrative capital in the coming general election.
PETALING JAYA: Dr Mahathir Mohamad has not ruled out the possibility of contesting in Putrajaya, the nation’s administrative capital which was built during his tenure as prime minister, in the coming general election (GE14).
“Yes, maybe I will stand in Putrajaya,” the PPBM chairman said when met at the party’s headquarters here this evening.
Last year, Amanah suggested that the former prime minister stand in Putrajaya.
Putrajaya Amanah member Mohd Radzi Abu Bakar said then that Mahathir was a more suitable candidate than Husam Musa, who had contested for the seat as the PAS candidate in GE13.
“Tun Mahathir is generally known as the ‘master planner and architect’ who succeeded in developing Putrajaya into a landmark of success in terms of Malaysia’s development,” Mohd Radzi said.
