Fliers hint at scandals among ‘pious elders’ at PAS assembly

.
ALOR SETAR: Participants of the 64th PAS muktamar (general assembly) were jolted this morning by the circulation of fliers that targeted three party leaders with hints of alleged unethical conduct and a sex scandal.
The A4-sized leaflets were distributed after they had been mysteriously inserted into copies of a Malay newspaper that was given away free to those attending the event at the Kedah PAS Complex in Kota Sarang Semut near here.
They featured images of two PAS office bearers with luxurious cars allegedly owned by them now, compared to their earlier vehicles.
The fliers also targeted a PAS central committee member over an alleged sex scandal, widely discussed in social media circles before.
“If you are smart, you will not be deluded by these pious elders of Act 355,” a text in the leaflet said, referring to the amendment to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act which PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has tabled in Parliament to enforce more severe shariah punishments.
Members of PAS’ security unit, the Unit Amal PAS, were later seen removing copies of the handout from the newspapers that had not yet been given away.
There were also other forms of anonymous propaganda and messages.
Someone had hung up the puppet of a monkey wearing a mullah-style turban on the side of a main road that led to the venue.
A banner calling on three PAS legislators in Kedah to resign was also seen strung up on Jalan Putra in Alor Setar.
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the party knew who was behind the “provocative” leaflets and the banner but refused to reveal any names.
Describing them as desperate acts, he said they did not make the slightest dent in the progress of the muktamar.

PAS to apply new Shariah punishments in states it takes in GE14
BY RAM ANAND
–
ALOR SETAR, April 27 — PAS will introduce higher Shariah sentencing limits in the five states the party aims to control after the next general election, PAS Youth chief Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz said today.
Nik Abduh said this was also contingent, however, on PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s private member’s Bill being passed by Parliament.
He then urged the Islamist party’s youth wing to help realise Hadi’s ambition for PAS to rule five states and win 40 parliamentary seats in the next election.
“If it is fated that Act 355 is passed in Parliament, and PAS manages to rule five states in GE14, we actually have the powers to amend Shariah enactments at the state levels,” Nik Abduh said during his opening speech at the PAS Youth Muktamar here today.

More money in pocket – PAS promises prosperity for GE14
Nik Abduh promised more disposable income for Malaysians in PAS Youth’s general election manifesto.
“Disposable income – more ringgit in your pockets (is what we promise),” he said, but did not elaborate on how this would be achieved.

Boosted by Shariah Bill progress, PAS set to outline GE14 direction in muktamar
ALOR SETAR, April 27 — After months of flirting with Umno and threatening to call quits on its working relationship with PKR, PAS is set to outline a clear picture on how it will position itself in the next general election in its 63rd Muktamar gathering that kicks off here today.
Boosted yet again by the progress of their proposed amendments to increase the power of Shariah Courts via the Shariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965, which was allowed to be read out in the Dewan Rakyat for the second time earlier this month despite being a private member’s Bill, PAS leaders will look to consolidate party ranks following a fractious two years for the party.
The muktamar is also likely to be the last gathering of all party grassroots before the 14th general election.
Following their break-up from the Pakatan Rakyat coalition in 2015, PAS has seen the progressives of the party break away to form their own party in Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), which in turn formed a new opposition coalition, Pakatan Harapan, with PAS’ former allies PKR and DAP.
Last year, the formation of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) led by former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad further increased competition for PAS’ Malay-Muslim voter base.
Despite initially courting PAS, PPBM recently joined the Pakatan Harapan coalition after failing to get PAS to come on board for a mooted “grand coalition” for all opposition parties.

PAS targeting 80 parliamentary seats in GE14
PAS is aiming to contest for 80 parliamentary seats in the 14th general election (GE14) and has not ruled out the possibility of going for seats traditionally contested by DAP and PKR.
PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad said the figure and new areas have not been finalised as the details were still being worked out by the party’s election machinery.
He said the Federal Territories PAS Youth were targeting nine parliamentary seats in the Federal Territories namely Titiwangsa, Putrajaya, Labuan, Bandar Tun Razak and Wangsa Maju.
“The others are Setiawangsa, Lembah Pantai, Batu and Segambut,” he told reporters after opening the Federal Territories PAS Youth annual assembly in Kuala Lumpur today.
.
In GE13, PAS only managed to win 21 of the 73 parliamentary seats and of the 237 state seats contested, PAS won 85 seats.
