He had earlier told the media about his immediate neighbour’s alleged abuse of her mother and even provided photographs that he claimed he had taken of the abuse.
But in a twist to the tale yesterday, the man, Darwinder Singh Sukhdev Singh, 39, was charged with one count of abetting his neighbour, a 25-year-old woman, to voluntarily cause hurt.
Singh, who is unemployed, had allegedly abetted Ms Siti Nur Redha Khamis to feed her mother, Madam Kamisah Burel, human faeces and urine at Block 48, Lower Delta Road, on July 1 at about 10.30pm.
After the charge was read to him in English, the portly man, who was dressed in an electric blue shirt, asked to address the court.
Speaking in broken English, he said: “I only told Ms Siti to (feed her mother faeces and urine) one time, but she do it every day.”
Singh added that Ms Siti had been out of a job for eight months and had asked him for money and he had tried to help her.
She even told him to pawn his jewellery and sell his mobile phone and laptop, he said.
Accusations
When District Judge Christopher Goh asked Singh what he was trying to say, Singh replied: “She accuse me of many things, but I have many things to tell about her, too.”

When she saw her sister during Hari Raya Aidilfitri last year, the latter seemed happy.
But after that joyous festive occasion, her relatives no longer heard from the 58-year-old woman who is at the centre of an elderly abuse controversy after a video of her being slapped, allegedly by her daughter, went viral.
The woman’s youngest sister, who requested anonymity, told The New Paper last evening that she and her family visited her older sister at her flat on Lower Delta Road in July last year to celebrate Hari Raya.
…
The sister said she has four brothers and four sisters. Her abused sister is the fifth child.
Heaving a sigh, the housewife said that she found out about her sister’s plight only after watching the news on Tuesday night.
She said: “My sister had a stroke about three years ago and she can no longer walk steadily.

SINGAPORE, July 25— In a surprising turn of events, a neighbour of the household at the centre of an abuse video that went viral this week was charged in court yesterday.
Darwinder Singh, 39, was charged with abetting his neighbour Siti Nur Redha in voluntarily causing hurt to her mother by feeding the latter with human faeces and urine.
A district court heard that Singh allegedly abetted Siti on July 1 at Block 48, Lower Delta Road. No charge has currently been brought against Siti. The prosecution requested for Singh to be held in custody for the police to conduct raids and visit the alleged crime scene to investigate “the offences that have taken place over a long period of time”.
Singh, dressed in a blue polo T-shirt today, told the court that Siti had been feeding her mother, Kamisah Burel, with faeces and urine daily. “I ask them to feed her only once, but they do that every day,” he said.
He added that he had pawned jewellery and sold mobile phones as Siti had asked him for money. Singh will be back in court next Friday.
