Lift plummets 12 floors to the ground – but miraculously no one is killed
Although none of the injuries were fatal, one woman has been paralysed from the waist down and other are being treated for fractures
The office elevator was full of employees leaving for the evening when it fell down its shaft, leaving passengers with spinal injuries and leg fractures.
The incident happened at Huayang International Mansion in Shenyang’s Heping district, China, and the passengers were all employees of NDE Media.
Xiao Li, 27, was with his colleagues on the lift when the incident happened.
He told local media that the elevator at first went down at a steady speed, swaying slightly, but suddenly there was chaos inside the car, as they saw sparks and the light fitting and ceiling collapsed, knocking one of his colleagues unconscious.
From floor 12, the lift plummeted, and they crashed straight to the ground at speed.

Twelve passengers were injured when an elevator fell from the 12th floor and crashed to the ground in Shenyang, Liaoning province on July 15.
The terrifying accident occurred at the Huayang International Mansion in Shenyang’s Heping district.
A 27-year-old patient, named Xiao Li, told reporters that he was leaving the building with some colleagues on July 15. Li recalled that the elevator began to sway from side to side and began slowly descending as soon as the doors were closed.
Suddenly, they saw sparks of fire next to the elevators doors, and the roof and lamps started falling apart, knocking out one of the passengers. Li said they were crushed on the elevator floor as the roof fell apart, and that some of them tried opening the elevator doors but were unsuccessful. When they reached the 12th floor, the elevator took a dive and crashed straight down to the ground floor.
