Papagomo: I won’t flee like sex blogger Alvin Tan

Controversial blogger Papagomo, who is currently on police bail over the Low Yat Plaza riot case, stressed that he will wait for the cops to investigate rather than flee abroad like the infamous sex blogger Alvin Tan.

“I am a Malaysian citizen, I am not gonna run anywhere. I am not like Alvin Tan, run here and there,” he told Malaysiakini when contacted.

Papagomo was arrested in the wee hours of Wednesday after online postings of his purportedly fuelled racial sentiments which led to the riot outside the popular IT shopping complex in Kuala Lumpur.

Wan Muhammad said the police are completing the investigation which includes a probe over several fake accounts using his name.

He added that so far he has not been informed on whether he would be charged.

“I am on Raya holiday, I didn’t get my Raya (vacation) on my first day.

“I am outside Kuala Lumpur and will be back on Thursday. No rally (for me) or call by police (for investigation),” he said.

IGP: No Papagomo rally at Low Yat this Saturday

KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 — Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar debunked rumours today that a group of NGOs led by Papagomo will stage a mass rally outside Low Yat Plaza this weekend, pointing out that the controversial blogger is currently still under remand.

On Facebook last night, the administrator of the account named “Papagomo Original” claimed that 12 NGOs including Persatuan Kebajikan Islam dan Dakwah Islamiah (Pekida) and Perkasa have agreed to gather at the popular tech mall on Saturday to protest the alleged inaction by the police over the recent brawl.

Khalid, however, urged the public not to worry about the post as Papagomo, whose real name is Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, is still safely behind bars. The post, he added, were likely done by his followers to rile the public up. “Don’t worry, that is fake account. Someone else is posting that. Papagomo is still in lock up,” he told Malay Mail Online when contacted today.

Cops nab blogger Papagomo over racist posts on Low Yat brawl

Police have arrested blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, also known as Papagomo, for allegedly publishing false information that led to skirmishes outside the Low Yat Plaza last Sunday.

Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said Papagomo was arrested at his house last night.

Khalid said police are now looking for another suspect, a branch chief of a political party in Penang, for trying to incite hatred following the Low Yat incident.

“We will arrest anyone who tries to incite hatred and instigating the situation, does not matter what race. We are colour blind,” Khalid told reporters today. – July 15, 2015.

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman will be going for two individuals alleged to have caused racial tension in connection with the brawl at Low Yat Plaza late Sunday. One of the duo – a political party branch leader – was seen on video making offensive racial remarks. The video has gone viral and was even posted on the politician’s Facebook page. The other is blogger Papagomo, who posted a picture purportedly of a “victim” of the ruckus, further worsening the situation. “Those I asked to surrender themselves have not done so. “Today, we will come for them and make the arrests,” Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said Tuesday, referring to both individuals. Najib warns that Sedition Act will be used against those who destroy racial harmony

PETALING JAYA • Prime Minister Najib Razak said the tough Sedition Act will be used against those who destroyed racial harmony in an incident at Low Yat Plaza on Sunday where five people were injured in a brawl that has raised concern about fragile race relations in Malaysia. Police, who have arrested 19 people, called the incident a “riot”. … “People should not create racial hatred via the Internet or messaging apps on their phones,” Mr Najib said in a Chinese statement on his Facebook page yesterday.

Blogger Papa Gomo tops police’s arrest list

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said he has instructed that blogger “Papa Gomo” be arrested for creating false news in relation to the brawls that occurred at Low Yat Plaza. Speaking to reporters at the mall today, Khalid said this was in relation to the claim that a youth was cheated by a handphone trader. The police chief confirmed that the youth, who had caused the first brawl, had indeed stolen a handphone from one of the shops. “His accomplice then created false stories which was further hyped by social media users. “They (social media users) created false stories and one of them is Papa Gomo. I have instructed for these people to be arrested,” he said.
