Ignored, Manek Urai flood victims wear their needs on manila cardboard
Manek Urai, over 20 km south of Kuala Krai town, was among the worst-hit areas in the recent floods which saw over 250,000 people in Kelantan displaced from their homes.
The floods caused both Kg Manek Urai Lama and Kg Manek Urai Baru devastated, leaving most homes in ruins and the families homeless. As of this week, the victims were still reeling from the disaster.

KUALA KRAI, Jan 12 — A flimsy yellow manila card hangs from a pole under a tin roof in flood-ravaged Kg Manek Urai Lama, declaring to all passers-by in Malay: “Mohd Rodzi Ibrahim. Residents: 10 people. Needs: Mattresses, pillows, food, clothes”.
Some weeks have passed since the flood waters ebbed leaving the village covered in dried up mud that crumbles to dust, but the aid meant to help the residents rebuild their lives have yet to reach some families.
…
According to them, some “lazy” volunteers would just drop the aid on the bridge that goes into the village instead of meeting the victims directly, leaving the goods to be pilfered by flood victims from outside villages.
“They don’t go inside the villages… The ones who are affected like us, of course we will be in our homes. We will not be on the bridge,” 41-year-old Mohd Rodzi Ibrahim, owner of the yellow signboard, told Malay Mail Online.

As we walked across the bridge connecting Kg Manek Urai Baru and Kg Manek Urai Lama outside, a lorry carrying relief volunteers could be seen distributing bottles of drinking water.
Some locals could be seen scurrying to unload cartons off the lorry and putting the bottles in baskets on their mud-crusted motorcycles. They then sped off, away from Kg Manek Urai Lama.

LOOTERS WHO CAME NOT FOR WATER, FOOD OR OTHER BASIC NECESSITIES!
The most appalling instance was when 30 men armed with knives confronted eight security guards at Super Cowboy and forced them to open the gates into the outlet, Kwong Wah Daily reported.
They took electronic devices, such as computers, drills and rice cookers.

A number of shops in Temerloh were looted during and soon after the floods hit the Pahang town, but the thieves and burglars were not looking for food.
Instead, they targeted pricey goods such as computers, drills, and cookers.
According Kwong Wah Daily, a person in-charge at the Super Cowboy Supermarket in Temerloh revealed that more than a hundred business premises in the town were plundered during the floods, including his outlet.
Among those looted were a tyre shop, a fruits wholesaler, a number of coffee shops, a Marrybrown restaurant as well as several 7-Eleven convenience stores.
The most appalling instance was when 30 men armed with knives confronted eight security guards at Super Cowboy and forced them to open the gates into the outlet, Kwong Wah Daily reported.
“We are not sure if the outlet owner has lodged a police report, therefore we made a report to the police in Termeloh on Jan 2,” the person in-charge said.
…
Checks conducted by the staff from the Super Cowboy headquarters, he said, revealed that most of the goods taken away were not food items.
The robbers took electronic devices, such as computers, drills and rice cookers, which he said are pricey items.

SEE HOW THE PRIME MINISTER SUFFERS FOR THE RAKYAT!
He got an E.coli infection. Oh, what they mean is that he has a bad case of diarrhoea. DIARRHOEA.
We can’t have running off to the toilet now and then, can we? Especially when Malaysia, an advanced nation, has 3rd class public toilets.
It’s a good idea, then, for him to stay home and stroll over to his luxurious bathroom whenever nature calls.
He does have the best medical care available.

Govt cannot control sharp rise in price of goods in Kelantan, says DPM
DUNGUN, Dec 29, 2014:
The government has no control over the sharp rise in the price of goods in Kelantan, but is trying to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism must ensure that supply of basic food stuff, such as rice, flour, sugar and cooking oil, is increased.
…
Petrol is sold at RM15 per litre, chicken at RM38 each, instant noodle at RM10 per packet and 1.5 litre mineral water at RM8 per bottle.
Muhyiddin said during floods, gas dealers could not deliver gas as the roads were inundated and would have to wait for the water to recede.
…
“The high price of goods is normal because the roads are cut off. Supply becomes difficult resulting in higher cost of transportation.
“For example, vegetables from Cameron Highlands cannot reach the flooded areas. They cannot use air transport as it is costly,” he said.
“Because of this, the traders will sell the limited supply of goods at high prices.”

RICE IS RICE. Just take the rice and dump the sacks!

‘Rice bags with my face not reason for aid delay’
Machang MP Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub said the rice bags printed with his face were leftovers from the 13th general election campaign.
The Machang Umno chief was retorting to those who accused him of delaying flood aid because he wanted his face and the Barisan Nasional logo printed onto the bags of rice distributed.
…
He said that there is no truth to claims that the rice had to be transferred out of its original packaging to the ‘BN-branded’ packaging because the personalised rice were already in stock.
“When disaster struck and there was shortage of supply of aid, I took out my stock of 500 bags to be distributed immediately.
“This is no time for politics. This is a humanitarian mission,” he stressed.

Najib now orders cabinet home too
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, who earlier received heavy criticism for being in the US while the flood situation hit disastrous proportions in the East Coast, has now ordered all cabinet ministers who are on vacation overseas to return home to assist in the flood operations.
According to Bernama, Najib issued the directive this morning and the ministers concerned are reportedly now making preparations to return to Malaysia.
“This decision was made so that they could work to assist in the flood rescue and relief operations,” he tells a news conference after visiting the flood relief centre at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Padang Tengku, Kuala Lipis, today.

Najib says golf game with Obama was for Malaysia’s benefit
Najib says golf game with Obama was for Malaysia’s benefit http://bit.ly/1HP9HV6
KOTA BARU, Dec 27 — Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today explained that his golf game with United States president Barack Obama in Hawaii recently did not mean that he deliberately ignored the flood faced by the country as polemicised by certain groups.
On the contrary, the prime minister said the game had been planned much earlier on the principle of establishing diplomatic ties with world leaders for Malaysia’s benefit.
In addition, he said, the invitation had been extended during Obama’s visit to this country in April, and it was difficult to decline the invitation as it had been planned for much earlier in the schedules of both leaders.
Speaking at a media conference here after observing the areas badly affected by the flood in Kelantan, he said, “Actually, during President Obama’s visit to Malaysia, he had said that if coincidentally I were in Hawaii together with him (Obama), he would like to play golf with me (Najib).
“And playing golf is not something strange or extraordinary… because during the times of Tun Abdul Razak (Malaysia’s second prime minister), Tun Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman (second deputy prime minister), playing golf with world leaders could be described as golf diplomacy,” he said.
Malay Mail Online
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 27 ― Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s Christmas Eve golfing session with US president Barack Obama in Hawaii even as Malaysia faced its worst monsoon flooding in decades this week proved the high regard in which the prime minister is held by the world superpower, an Utusan Malaysia editor said today.
…
The Utusan editor stressed the US president’s invitation to Najib should be viewed as an “honour”, and that it was not “normal” for Obama to mix business with pleasure- playing golf while discussing important matters.
“The invitation itself showed US’s respect towards Najib’s leadership,” he added.
