Barbie is finally catching up with fashion & realising there is more 2 footwear than jus heels http://ow.ly/Ob81Y

Barbie dolls are becoming normal. They are finally wearing flats!
Now it looks like Barbie is stooping down to the level of us mere humans.
After 56 years of wearing heels, Barbie will finally be able to wear flat shoes.
No matter what you say about Barbie and her… statistically impossible body, you have to give her props for wearing heels for more than half a century.
Meanwhile, I can’t even wear a pair of heels for 56 minutes without wanting to cut my legs off.
So I’m more than happy to know that Barbie still possesses some human qualities.

Barbie remains the largest doll brand in the world, with sales of about US$1 billion (S$1.27 billion) in the past four quarters but sales have fallen 21%.
Barbie’s target audience, young girls, have also been gravitating to other dolls made by Mattel such as Monster High and those based on the hit Disney movie Frozen.

Barbie fighting to keep her crown as global sales for the doll continues to slide
Life in plastic has not been so fantastic for Barbie.
The blonde, blue-eyed American doll who looks ageless at 55 has seen its popularity fade as its global sales dropped by 21 per cent for the three months ended Sept 30. This fall is sharper than the 15 per cent drop in the previous three months and it marks the fourth straight double-digit decline.
The plunge in sales was reported by Barbie’s maker, Mattel, on Thursday, as the toy company gears up for the crucial holiday season.
While Barbie remains the largest doll brand in the world, with sales of about US$1 billion (S$1.27 billion) in the past four quarters, its slide has come on the heels of stiff competition from new toys.
One source of threat: the Disney Princess and Ever After High dolls by Mattel. These dolls were credited for the one per cent increase in sales of other Mattel doll brands in the recent quarter.

WILL THERE BE RIOTS AND THE BURNING OF BARBIE KALI?

Hindus upset at Barbie depicted as goddess Kali
Rajan Zed says faith is something sacred and attempts at belittling it hurt devotees.
Hindus are upset with an upcoming art show opening in Buenos Aires (Argentina) on October 11 depicting the iconic Barbie doll as their goddess Kali, calling it highly inappropriate.
Titled “Barbie, The Plastic Religion”, this exhibition plans to include 33 dolls of various religious figures produced by two Argentinian artists Marianela Perelli and Pool Paolini.
Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, urged the artists to not include Barbie-ised Goddess Kali in the exhibition and remove it from their online postings and printed material as it trivialised the highly revered deity of Hinduism.
Zed, who is President of the Universal Society of Hinduism, stressed that reimagining Hindu scriptures and deities for commercial or other agenda was not okay as it hurt the devotees. Goddess Kali and other Hindu deities were meant to be worshipped in temples and home shrines and not meant to be reduced to a Barbie character.
Zed pointed out that Hindus were for free speech as much as anybody else if not more. But faith was something sacred and attempts at belittling it hurt the devotees. Artists should be more sensitive while handling faith related subjects, Zed added.
Zed further said that Hindus welcomed art world to immerse in Hinduism but taking it seriously and respectfully and not for refashioning Hinduism concepts and symbols for personal agendas. Barbie-fication of Kali was simply improper, wrong and out of place.

Saturday 27 Sep 2014 12:51 pm

Marianela Perelli and Pool Paolini turned Barbie and Ken dolls into religious icons for their “Barbie, The Plastic Religion” exhibition (Picture: Facebook) Artists have caused mass controversy after creating a Barbie in the image of the Hindu Goddess Kali.
The two Argentinian artists Marianela Perelli and Pool Paolini have already hit headlines after previewing pieces from their upcoming exhibition The Plastic Religion, which features Barbie and Ken dolls altered to resemble religious figures such as Jesus and the Virgin Mary.
One of the figures that has resulted in mass condemnation by Hindus is of the four armed deity Kali holding a severed head.
Rajan Zed, a Hindu cleric based in the USA has said the ‘Barbie-fication of Kali is simply improper, wrong and out of place’, reports The Hindu.
He added: ‘Hindus welcome the art world to immerse in Hinduism but taking it seriously and respectfully and not for refashioning Hinduism concepts and symbols for personal agendas.’
